Holy Vibration

So Im driving down the highway today, and I feel a slight vibration. It slowly starts to get worse so I think my tire is going. I pull over and look at my tires... nothing... So I start up again, but now I hear a clunking noise, when I turn and when I'm driving... The sound goes away when I accelerate, but when I stay at a steady speed its really bad.. Almost undrivable.. I made it home.. but my cars just sitting there... just hoping I could get some advice what it might be.. before I have to take it into the stealership and drop $500+

perhaps you have a tire that is out of balance.

do you have any wheels where the weights have come off?

I had almost the exact same symptoms happen to an old sunfire.
except i didnt make it home.
i was slowing to a stop and BANG, grinddddddd, and i watched my right front wheel roll ahead of me into the ditch.

you can torque them by hand... it's not a huge deal to worry about... just make sure they are all on tightly... to get them "overtorqued" would require an impact wrench.

Um... yeah... you should be able to see them glued to the inside of the rim... little metal squares... they're not very heavy... but once you get the tire spinning they make sure that it rotates smoothly and evenly.

Sounds like you may have lost some on one tire... it does happen.

That's why whenever you get new wheels or tires you always have them mounted and balanced.

If your buddy took your wheels off 3 days ago i'm willing to bet it's the lug nuts.

thus is why I'm a fan of the more lugs the better. I really don't think 4 is enough when some cars have 6 or more.

I'm off to the guy who sold me my rims and tires... I'm gonna see if he'll do a tire rotation for me and check the balance on the tires... Hopefully thats all that is wrong with it

i had the same exact problem, and it was a loose tripod mount and a busted axle. only happened when accelerating, and was more noticeable in higher gears.

Before you drive it, at the very least, make sure you can't loosen any of them by hand. I would be weary of driving far, fast or aggressively with those symptoms. Please be careful and use your head. Good to see you're using something else for the time being...
