How to Clean Throttle Body

Is there a write up on how to clean your throttle body? My wife's 2006 Cobalt has been been dropping rpms down to 500 when the AC is on. It mainly does it when she stops at a light. The RPMS drop then go back up to about 800 rpms. The car has 90,000 miles on it and i have never cleaned the throttle body so i suspect that. Do I need to remove it to clean it or can I just clean it on the car? What do i need to be careful with in cleaning the throttle body?

Thanks!

It was Riceburner's thread on the RPM swinging evening or stalling out with high clutch activity.

With 90k miles I would clean it anyway. Looks pretty nasty after about 30-50k miles.

to clean the throttle body (i'm assuming your an lsj btw) you need to remove teh air intake. thats pretty straight forward. Then the TB is there held in by 4 (i think 10mm) bolts. take those off, thing comes right out. you DO need to remove it, you don't wanna be spraying this **** into the supercharger. the plug on the TB is tricky though... to be safe, just don't remove that unless u know how to unplug it and clean it there in the engine bay. don't get any throttle body cleaner on the electrical connections. spray into body and plate, then wipe off all excess possible with a coth. this means gently opening the butterfly and wiping all the crud in there, this is the crud that is causing your problem

Don't spray the cleaner into the throttle body,if it gets in the throttle position sensors you will be sorry.

The correct way is to spray it on a rag and wipe it out with that rag,get it as clean as you can this way and if your real **** use Q-tips to get in the nook and crannies and just spray them as well.

DONOT SPRAY Into the throttle body directly!!!!!
There's alot of guys who had problems with the TB after doing that!

Ok dumb question. How do I remove the air manifold cover? I can see the hose clamp that holds it to the throttlebody but the top part of the cover up by the engine has a plastic looking plug or clip. How do I remove that with out breaking it?
