Humming Sound - Front Driver Side
Humming Sound - Front Driver Side
Morning,
I have an 06' ss s/c with 112k miles on it and have a strange "humming" sound that gets progressively louder as my speed increases (40+ mph). I'm thinking this is probably the wheel bearing so i took it out to look at it (its definitely shot).
However, just to be sure that it is the only bearing that is shot i had the car jacked up so the front drivers side tire was the only one up in the air. With a buddys help he hopped in the car and threw it in gear (without hitting the gas or brake) and he slowly evened out the clutch to make the bearings spin. The same noise could be heard even with the bad bearing removed making me think its more than just that bearing. Im pretty pissed because now because i think it could be a bearing in my differential
Maybe i'm just thinking too much and by replacing the outside bearing it will go away?
Has anyone had an issue similar to this where they had to take apart their differential to solve this "humming" sound?
Any insight is greatly appreciated!

It's a wheel bearing. Go down a street with a left and right hand turn. If the noise is coming from the drivers side, and you turn left the noise should stop, and if you turn right it will get louder. That means a bad wheel bearing because you are putting load on and off the bad bearing
