Inspection Failed. Need Advice

Recently I had a P0496 Code kick out. Took it to local auto parts place and they cleared it. It didnt come back. Then yesterday I take my car to get inspected and it fails due to Oxygen Sensor and Fuel Evaporation Control. Are these two and the code related? If so can anyone suggest what actions to take to get this **** resloved? Thanks in advance.

well this is the description for the p0496 - EVAP flow during a non-purge condition, now that could kick in an 02 efficiency code if the first code is causing your car to run rich. would like to know what the other code exactly is to be sure. but the first one is most likely cause by a failed evap purge canister or its clogged. you could try running a fuel line cleaner in your tank and see if that helps.

You should be having the inspection done by the dealer.
All the emission stuff is covered for longer than your basic warranty.(Not a 100 % on that though.)
Call your dealer and find out from them what can be done with it because it failed.

Called my dealer, he wasn't much help. Asked him if these problems were covered under my warranty and he basically said he wasnt going to tell me **** unless I came in and paid for their $80 diagnostics test.

There was no other code. Just the P0496.

Did you drive your car enough after they cleared the code to have all your test ready?

you fail inspections for engine codes? brutal... as far as i know here in Canada that's not a safety issue... they don't care how badly your car runs as long as it runs badly safely. or does this not meet US emission standards?

Yep, in NC if your car has any kind of CEL or readiness code it will fail the emissions tests.

basically 100 miles is needed to clear the ECM of codes... but that doesn't always work.

a complete ECM reflash is what you need if you need it NOW!

Yeah I've driven over 100 miles since the codes were cleared. Like I said the Check engine light is no longer on and the codes were cleared way prior to me getting inspected and it still failed.

just because your CEL light isn't on. doesn't mean there aren't any codes stored in your ECM

The O2 codes are probably readiness failures. driving more, inlcuding idling for at least 30seconds at startup will help trigger those to pass if they havent run yet.

The P0496 is probably still a problem, and just hasnt failed enough times to set the MIL. You need to get it fixed.
