HaHA ... whatever , i've experienced the same issue and the only way to make it smooth is to (IMHO) abuse the clutch. It's mostly a motor mount issue , the TD helps.

ohhhh i understand what you guys are talking about now... first is a very touchy ratio... if i'm in a parking lot, going anywhere from .1 mph - 15 mph, i put it in second. first isnt really a driving gear. its just used when your at a DEAD stop. if you are rolling AT ALL, put it in second. thats what i do and i dont get this prob. the only thing is with putting it in second, is you dont get as much "throw you back in your seat feeling" (and i have polurethane mounts so it vibrates like no other), if you want to do that, put it in first, and rev high, release clutch faster than normal... i mean, thats what i do.

although, if you ARE in first, just be eeeasy on the gas, like your playing with a baby or something... and it shouldnt buck that hard. but all manuals do this. just some do it worse than others because like someone else said, more/less torque, or higher/lower ratios...

lmaooo

It's the drive by wire. The lagginess and sensitivity of the pedal causes it to do that. The soft stock mounts don't help this either.

First gear doesn't like you to stay slow on it, I only get the problem when I have to creep through first to avoid bottoming out on something.

It's not just with these cars. It has more to do with the transmission's 1st gear ratio being so high (numerically). My Mustang GT was even worse than my G5 GT.......it's to do with the ratio, not the car.

thats like asking me why your paint scratches when you use sand paper.....

in short:
operator error

Also if i remember correctly 1st gear doesnt have limited slip, but that only helps with grip so ur SOL

I get the same rocking and bucking feeling in a parking lot that everyone else is talking about. I have huge ass speed bumps so when i go over them my car bounces, and that leads to my foot rocking EVER so slightly on the accelerator causing it to CONTINUE to buck and get worse. SO i have learned that lesson. Secondly, on my car in first gear, if i am at.... say 2000 RPM and i let off the pedal completely, the second the car hits about 1200 RPM the tach starts to bounce off 1200 and 1000 RPM and it will buck by itself..... motor mounts? dirty TB? Gear ratio? help!

SOFT MOTOR MOUNTS, plus large amounts of torque, short gear, touchy throttle, it's all been said. get some solid motor mounts, and stay out of first as much as possible.

it's amazing how many people don't know how to drive their car. what you guys are doing is burning your clutch. yea, it solves the jerking problem. but it's burning your clutch, and not the way to do it.

the trick is to just be very steady in first. the proper way to start from a stop is to let the clutch up to the engage piont, THEN hit the gas. you don't hit the gas, and slowly let up the clutch. that's the wrong way to do it, and it will only cause clutch problems down the road.

another rule is that you ONLY use first to get to second. what the above person said is wrong. do NOT push the clutch to let 1st "reseat". that's bad on your clutch, and it's bad on your synchros. if that doesn't make sense, you want to be in first gear as little as possible. get going a little bit and shift into 2nd unless you're racing. if you're in first, let off the gas, and get bak on it, it will most certainly be jerking. instead of letting off and getting back on it in first, shift to 2nd. problem solved.

Apply the gas gingerly and let off it gingerly.

The jerk in first gear is normal.

You don't need much gas at all to get the car going. I literally give the engine enough revs just to to keep near idle to get the car going(Of course hit the clutch engagement point first).
