Jerking in 1st gear
If im driving through a parking lot at like 5mph nice and smoothly and slow down for some reason, when i give it gas again the whole car starts bucking and jerking back and forth. It gets to the point where its so bad,it looks like your just learing how to drive stick.Sometimes im too embarassed to even drive through a parking lot.
although, if you ARE in first, just be eeeasy on the gas, like your playing with a baby or something... and it shouldnt buck that hard. but all manuals do this. just some do it worse than others because like someone else said, more/less torque, or higher/lower ratios...
Yeah,i need to learn to drive my car.Why didnt i think of that. Its a known complaint with these cars dip ****.This is coming from someone saying its because first gear is so damn torquey,LOL.You dont deal with stop in go traffic like i do in nyc.You live in the friggen desert, all u have to do is make sure u dont hit a cactus. So,go back and read ur magazines of super street and pretend like you know something about cars.

It's the drive by wire. The lagginess and sensitivity of the pedal causes it to do that. The soft stock mounts don't help this either.

in short:
operator error
Also if i remember correctly 1st gear doesnt have limited slip, but that only helps with grip so ur SOL
WTF are you talking about ? operator error?
First gear doesn't have limited slip lol?
I get the same rocking and bucking feeling in a parking lot that everyone else is talking about. I have huge ass speed bumps so when i go over them my car bounces, and that leads to my foot rocking EVER so slightly on the accelerator causing it to CONTINUE to buck and get worse. SO i have learned that lesson. Secondly, on my car in first gear, if i am at.... say 2000 RPM and i let off the pedal completely, the second the car hits about 1200 RPM the tach starts to bounce off 1200 and 1000 RPM and it will buck by itself..... motor mounts? dirty TB? Gear ratio? help!
ya but i dont want super hard shaking coming from my engine. I have Poly mounts in my eclipse and they shake like a mother ******. My whole steering wheel vibrates on idle and start up, and u dont even wanna know about the AC compressor lol
the trick is to just be very steady in first. the proper way to start from a stop is to let the clutch up to the engage piont, THEN hit the gas. you don't hit the gas, and slowly let up the clutch. that's the wrong way to do it, and it will only cause clutch problems down the road.
another rule is that you ONLY use first to get to second. what the above person said is wrong. do NOT push the clutch to let 1st "reseat". that's bad on your clutch, and it's bad on your synchros. if that doesn't make sense, you want to be in first gear as little as possible. get going a little bit and shift into 2nd unless you're racing. if you're in first, let off the gas, and get bak on it, it will most certainly be jerking. instead of letting off and getting back on it in first, shift to 2nd. problem solved.
Apply the gas gingerly and let off it gingerly.
The jerk in first gear is normal.
You don't need much gas at all to get the car going. I literally give the engine enough revs just to to keep near idle to get the car going(Of course hit the clutch engagement point first).
