Problems/Service/Maintenance Do you have problems with your new 2.0, 2.2, or 2.4L? What kind of service did you have done?

Just amazed.

Just amazed.

Just a lol facepalm thread

I replaces my fuel filter today. What a god damn difference it made.... If anyone hasnt done theirs yet. I HIGHLY recomend doing it. I bought my car used with around 150k kms on it. Now at 180k . And i have power again... This was the last step in my tune up process, wish i woulda done this when i bought it. It was clogged, when i tried to blow through it, it took some serious effort i had to push. The new one was just free, nothing to it.

So yea lol, do it now if you cant remember the last time it was done

P.s buy the $15 tool that ment for removing the line.

If you're throwing 93 octane in a 2.2 you're throwing away money, unless tuned for it.

Also - Make sure tires are all inflated to proper PSI for best mileage. Alignment as well if it doesn't track straight.

i think he's driving a g5 and if its a 2.4 then they are 'recommended' to run 93 iirc, though they can get a way with 87/89 easier than the FI cars

I changed my fuel filter and tranny fluid a few weeks ago thinking the new fuel filter would help my gas mileage. I was wrong. It didn't make any difference.

No hes not lol 2.2's are 10:1 compression, while they can run 87 easily with the low octane map just like the 2.4 can, you will in fact get better results running higher octane fuel.

93 is harder to ignite since octane ratings specify the fuels resistance to detonation. The 2.2 motors were designed for 87 and get the best results from this fuel. Please post your 'results' that a stock tune 2.2 runs better on 93 and I will take back my words.

This.

The 2.4's are premium recommened, but the 2.2's unless tuned for higher octane gas should only run 87.

This I would at most run 89 if you have a little knock. In my base model before I learned a lot about the cars (shortly after I joined here) I tried a little experiement filled my tank from empty on 93 drove around normal check mpg, then went back to 87 did the same thing there was no difference at all.

Really had no intention of drag stripping my moms car and I understand how octane and gasoline works. lol Insinuating that higher octane fuel is somehow harmful to your car because it is "harder to ignite" is simply not true however. The 6 point difference in octane in pump gas doesn't mean that one gas shouldn't be run in your car vs the other. Even with 87 octane fuel the 2.2 will still get KR trying to run the high octane ignition timing it was designed with and there is a noticeable and documented difference between the way the car runs on 87 vs 89 vs 93. In fact in most areas the ignition timing is more aggressive then even the 2.4 despite being very similar in compression ratio, 10:1 vs 10.4:1. Next time i have a chance to datalog the difference on her car ill post it for you. The 2.4 and the 2.2 can both run on 87 octane, but they will deffer to the low octane timing map almost exclusively once they detect enough KR during the first few minutes of running.
