key stuck in ignition
key stuck in ignition
sorry if this is a repost i just couldnt find the answer.... my key is stuck in the ignition.... i went to start my car and the key popped out 1 notch, i can turn it to start run acc, but not off.... the wheel is unlocked but the gear selecter(automatic) is stuck in park even with brake applied..... i saw while searchign that a few ppl had this happen but noone had a solution... i jiggled the shifter and key and everything... nothing
Are the wheels cut at all in any direction? If the wheel is unlocked then that is not likely the problem but just in case you might want to try moving that around a little to see if it'll free up.
Also might want to try putting the key back all the way in and seeing if you can do anything there. Maybe try either starting the car or moving the key to different positions. See if you can get it out of park and then back in or something.
I can't help much on the auto tranny thing, but just try some different stuff and see if anythign happens.

Mine did that all the time....dealer has to replace the whole shifter assembly. Apparrantly there is a TSB out for it.....take it in, they should fix it for you no prob
if it is in fact the same problem I was having

I used to do a combination of a bunch of things...
try turning the key while pressing on the brake simultaneously and trying to move the shifter back and forth. Sounds complicated but while your doing all those things keep trying to turn the key and get it out....worked for me.

This happened to my car about a month ago. the key would get stuck in there and would come out. but it does if ya either play with it or let it sit for a min. I took mine to the dealer and he fixed the problem within an hour or so.

nope...all the way in...but like speedy chick said.....there should be a rubber cover on the side...pull that away and stick something in there. Hopefully that should release it. If not...hope you still have warranty. Call 1-800-chev USA and tow that b*tch to a dealer

EDIT: If you can't check, I can run outside to my car to see.
Are you sure the steering wheel isnt locked?? Thats what it sounds like to me..Can you move the steering back and forth?? If thats not the problem, try what speedychick said about the rubber cover..If worse comes to worst..Dig around you glove box and call that Chevy number..I'm pretty sure that they'll tow it free to the nearest Chevy dealer.

There was always a circle piece of plastic on the bottom of the steering wheel that came out and you just stick a pencil or pen in there to reset the lock. Try and look under the steering wheel for something like that, not the rubber part though...

hmm...that sucks. So it could be the problem someone said earlier and most likely not the problem I was having
so now my question because im terrified of jumpstrting because of the horror stories.... since my car is stuck with the key in once they hook my car up should i just let them idle for a bit and then try to start my car? since its fully draind?
