Knocking in steering column
Knocking in steering column
I keep getting a knocking in my steering column and was wondering if any one else had the same issues i have an 06. When i hit about 65 it starts to knock pretty hard, if i turn slightly to left it usually stops or turn slightly to right it stops but then comes back. any ideas what i should be looking for? When it knocks I'm on pretty flat surface even not bumpy. I really have no idea but it drives me insane! Please help thanks!
There was a recall on the steering intermediate shaft for my '06. I think that knocking is one of the symptoms. I had it done when I first had my car (brand new in '06). I do have it again though but it doesn't seem to be as bad as you are describing.
sounds like the steering column for sure. if it goes away when turning thats usually what it is. never seen them speed sensitive though, usually it's low speeds over bumps when they really start to go crazy.
pull out the power steering fuse and drive it, if the sound gets way worst and doesn't go away when you turn, it's the column. if not it could possibly be the shaft.
you could unbolt the shaft at the rack and cycle it in and out to spread the grease. if it goes away for a while after that, it's the shaft.
