Loud whine after changing water pump

Okay, so my water pump started leaking the other day. I changed the pump using the OTC water pump holding tool. I fixed the water pump sprocket so it wouldn't cause any problems with the timing chain. As far as I know the sprocket did not have move in any way. After I got everything back together and filled the coolant, I noticed a very loud whine coming from the water pump/ timing chain area. I looked through older forum posts but could not find a definite answer but many similar situations after changing the water pump. I want to know if maybe I messed up somehow or is this a problem not related to the changing the water pump. If anybody could help me understand exactly why the tool is needed, and how it could possibly be misused I would really appreciate it. As well as any thoughts on what may have happened or what I could check.

I have a 2006 Cobalt LS with a 2.2L engine and automatic transmission.

where did you get the water pump from, some aftermarket pumps like from Autozone, or Oreilly's are junk. This is what happens when you use them.
