Low Coolant

Those with an SS/TC, have you experienced your car going thru coolant like there is no tomorrow? Mine showed low awhile back, I finally got around to buying some and refilling my car with it, but just a day or 2 later it was low again. Taking it to the Stealership tomorrow, just figured I'd ask around to see what I can expect.

Cooky, unless your leaking, coolant isn't something a car "goes through". It's pumped in a cycle, you shouldn't ever even evaporate enough to ever lose any.

checked for leaks?

I did check for leaks but havent found any, but like I said I just filled up the coolant on Friday, and as of yesterday morning it was very low again.

has the low coolant warning come on?

maybe they just didn't top it off at the plant?

I know after my H/e install it took a few days of the sytem being bleed, heated up, cooled down, etc. till it was actually "full".

Yes the "low coolant" warning came on awhile back and I just got the time to fill it up, and like I said no more than a day later it was low again.

update us when you get it back from the dealership, that's really weird, I've never heard of that. If it's not leaking, where's it going? And why did it take until recently till it signalled for help?

Will do, I work tomorrow thru Friday from 7am to 7pm, but I'm gonna see if my Sergeant will let me drop it off in the morning and someone pick me up and take me back to our Precinct. I havent seen where it is leaking, and there is nothing sitting in my driveway.

this happened to my ss/sc. went to the dealer. took them 3 days to figure out that the radiator cap wasnt holding pressure so the coolant was shooting overboard. hope that helps

hmm.

Future, have you smelled coolant in your engine bay after you arrive at a desitnation (engine is now hot).

06cobalt might have something. Maybe it's only spilling after you've been driving so you don't see a leak.

Drive it long enough to heat the engine up. Park, open the engine bay and take a good wiff. Look for wet spots that appear to be drying as of recently.

I honestly havent really thought about the idea, but I know yesterday after hotlapping the car a few different times and parking, I've popped the hood to let the car cool off and I havent smelled anything. Is there something to do to make the leak from occurring, or do I still need the stealership to look at it?

If that is the case, how do I get it to stop, LOL.

.
well you can buy a new cap yourself. prolly 15 bucks. and see if it stops. or take it to the dealer and have them pressure test the cap and then it will be free for you if they change it because of the warrenty!!!

could mean a deap IC pump on your ss/sc. if it's hot enough it will evaporate out of the system.
