I can't remember what it was but when I bought my 08ss used it came with a 3 mounth warranty for free. It wasn't through the dealership either. Hopefully whoever buys that car will get lucky and have a warranty.

Shame we couldn't tell the guy buying it ahead of time. Would it do any good to give the dealer a heads up?
2 years ago I purchased 03 sun fire for my son at a reputable ( so I thought) dealer, and 60 miles later I was paying a shop to put in a brand new timing chain setup. Dealer did absolutely nothing to help me with my $1000 bill. I was soo pissed. Can't imagine being the guy who gets stuck with this. I think the dealer should be told of the concern, doubt they would do anything, but at least if the owner were to come on here, he would know that the dealer was made aware before he purchased it. Might help some.

I bought a 2009 sedan and got a cracked block issue within 3 months of ownership on a GMS1 i have been without my car since April waiting for GM to produce more engine since no one has one with a decent warranty . No dealership will want to pay and diagnose evidence against them . they would have to pay a machine shop to xray it or scope it which would be very costly or saw the engine which is pointless for diagnose. I wouldent wish this against any car enthusiest or even my worst enemy it sucks...

I can understand how you werent able to afford to fix the car but I think you should have had a back up plan in place in case something like that happens especially if your modding the car. We ALL know its not the tune that broke the engine. Its the defect in the block. Yes, it should be a warrantied item and its unfortunate that GM's policy is blame it on anything you possibly can other than our product, including aftermarket radiator caps. I think what you did was not the right way to go about it. Im sure you could have fixed the car with the support of members on here. Ive seen people buy engines and some members with technical background have come and assisted them with doing the swap.

I really do think you should have had a back up plan in place though.. I have my factory tune on a 2nd ECU in case I have a problem. Too bad my warranties are expired now so I guess thats really useless now. But, Id take a small loan out to get my engine fixed if I had to. I could even take a loan out on the 401k, hate to do that but if push came to shove, I have a back up plan.
I can't afford to take out another loan. The loan I have on the new car is only $20 more than the cobalt. 401k? Only had a decent job for a year (I'm 22) so I get by month to month lol. And as I've stated previously, nothing was confirmed. Just my own opinion, assumption, and paranoia. Funny thing is though, I could of done this to a civic and people would probably laugh. Since it was a SS... rawr. Ha.

People are pissed because you pawned YOUR problem off on someone else.
Now what is to stop someone else from ending up in an equal or worse situation than you? What if someone who has just enough money after school and living to be able to afford a car they desperately need ends up with this thing? Then YOU put them in that situation to save yourself the trouble of dealing with it. Doesnt matter if its a honda an ss or that pos 200 you bought its disappointing to see someone saying **** everyone else while saving their own ass

I couldn't afford another motor let alone being without a car to have the time to put another motor in. Which I don't even have the time. I live paycheck to paycheck. I don't go crying to mom and dad to bail me out of things. Sometimes you have to only think of yourself just to get by. Done trying to explain things about a shitty situation to you guys.

Try living inside your means then bro. If you are living paycheck to paycheck, you are outside of your means. I bet you voted for Obama too.

You are correct. We're all young and dumb at some point. When I'm financially better and buy another sports car I'll be prepared for any repairs.

You are an exercise in ignorance. If and when you acquire your next sports car if it goes bad like the LNF you'll pull the same bitch move and dump it on the nexty guy. If you don't have the ***** to own your **** now what makes you believe you'll grow a pair later?

I understand. But I don't think you should have screwed another person. Maybe could have traded it in to the first dealer or told them the problem

If he gave me the dealership name and location I would call, I think quite a few here would, not that they'd listen but someone should at least know.

For me this depends on the dealer. In AZ, the Lemon Law provides 15 days/500 miles for used cars. If there's a problem the seller has to fix it and the buyer pays up to $25 for the fix, so unless the car miraculously lasts 15 days without the coolant dropping twice then he's screwing the dealership and not the potential buyer. Since the coolant drops below min every day there should be no problem. If I could pull this off at the dealer that screwed me by telling GM my block cracked due to "negligence" I'd do it in a heartbeat. Since it's very unlikely OP has a beef with the dealer, total jerk move.

Actually, in either case, yeah the dealer should totally know. Unfortunately here, I don't think the dealer can do anything to the OP because it's doubtful he is obligated to report anything of this nature. Stuff like this just makes the prices of used cars at dealers go up.

Now I'm thinking out loud. These cars just go to auction. So he'll end up screwing some other dealer. Too bad, cuz I as I was writing that I was contemplating a form of revenge on my local dealer but it wouldn't work. So total jerk move any way you slice it.

U could have gone to the bank and explained and could have added to ur loan the cost of an engine, $3k from zzp, and install woils be maybe 1-2k that's 5 k or do it urself and learn something . U could have afforded it. Better thank screwing someone else over, u should get a big old slap in the head.

Andrew I looked yesterday on auto trader and didn't see one, or I was going to call them. I will check every couple of days . After all we know the mileage and that it's an 09 cobalt ss . It will turn up soon. If I had his zip it would make it easier.
I got hosed before and it made me sick, don't want to see someone else getting the same. Most states now aren't required to do anything about fixing it once it drives off their lot.

Everyone chill. Can't count the number of times memeberd have done this. Some have done it to other members.

Anyone remember the hole in the firewall car?

Hell I left a trifecta tune on my LS and almost feel bad about it.

Financially the OP did a great move.

Morally, not so much. But I have to give him a slow golf clap

Bet the car goes to auctiom
