ls 2.2 ENGINE RUNNING HOT

Well, I had to replace my cobalts cat at 80,000 because it was plugged. I also replaced my thermostat and had the coolant system flushed. For some reason my engine temp is mostly around 198-202 degrees. It's cold in illinois now and I'm afraid when it warms up my car is gonna really overheat. The thermostat was rated at 180 degrees so why is this thing heating up??? Also my gas mileage is about 25 miles city/highway. Any ideas???

202 is not overheating, the engine is rated for like 218 or 220, the fans will never let you get above 210

if you're idling a lot in traffic or what not, yea it will hit upwards of 200-201

Thanks guys. I didn't want to warp the aluminum head. It is a little durable engine though. Sure would like to super-charge it!

My G5 commonly ran 187, but would occasionaly peak to 207 at times. My LD2 Grand Am always ran 215-220.

My SS/SC always seems to run around 165.

Double check and make sure that there isnt any air bubbles in the system. would be my suggestion because they shouldnt be running that hot. It wont hurt it but that 180 thermostat should be kicking in. I would also check sometime they are bgad out of the box maybe the tstat has failed.

That's why all cars should have a temperature gauge displayed at all times somewhere on the dash. I love gauges.

My car NEVER went above 189 while moving and 210 while stopped in hot weather. I noticed one day that it was running in the 200-220s alot. Then My engine light came on and my gauge gave NO temp reading (said ---). Took it to the dealership and it was the thermastat. had it replaced and im back at 189.

It wouldnt hurt to get it checked. I only have 37K miles on my balt. BTW its coverd under drivetrain warrenty till 65K I think.

I put mine into a curb last year and jacked the radiator and didnt notice because 1 the only damage was to the lower front lip, and 2 there was so much snow on the ground that i woudnt have noticed liquid. I hate to say it i got you beat... 350 plus and blew the gasket and pretty much warped everything else.

Edit: lol yes im dumb, never had a car overheat, and wasnt sure how far i could take it, i made it home, and it started the next day, but not without every color of the "Im sick" rainbow coming out the back.
