LSJ: High IAT temps. Thoughts needed

2006 SS/SC

My IAT2 is getting stupid high really fast. If I do a pull from about 3.5k in second gear, by the top of third my IAT2 is up to 165 degrees.

Normal IAT2 cruising around is 30-40 degrees above ambient, but as soon as I pull on it, it shoots up at a ridiculous rate.

Now I know the pump is good, and I checked it again. I have a FMHE and option B on the car. 3" RD Fab intake, Injen filter, 3.06" pulley, 60's, and a long tube header.

I need some ideas on why it would shoot up like that so fast

Because I can hear it as well as see gurgling fluid in the option B tank every once and a while if I switch my car to ON and watch it.

I would double check the lines,

Run the car with the cap off of the opt b tank and see how much air comes out.

I will add that I have not service the aftercooler system in about 6 months. I installed the option B, FMHE, and brand new pump at the same time.

I will check the lines, but there are no leaks in the system, this I am sure of.

Unless your measuring the actual flow rate, just because you see it moving doesnt mean its working properly. Pump failures can happen gradually where the RPM's progressively slow down to the point where it does nothing, sounds like your experiencing this now.

I'm going to be using something like this on my system to monitor flow rate.

In-line Flow Meter (Poly 2-20 gpm)

Those are north of $150...

Its possible my pump is shitting out. It has 10k on it, but I did get my car stuck in the sand last weekend. Was buried up pretty high; high enough that the pump motor may have sucked in sand.

on stock cooling with a 2.8 pulley i would think that would be expected, you need to have a dual pass and a upgraded heat exchanger at the very least to keep those temps low with a 2.8 pulley.

Awesome. My car is SO SO happy. I actually think the 42's I have are cooked. The car would spike rich when I closed the throttle on them, as if they were stuck open. The harness didn't work, looks like it is for the 2.2 or 2.4 and that it was a handmade one. I used the brand new harness from my 80's for them.

Thanks again!

You have the pump set up to come on without the car being started in your tune?

Glad it worked, figured the harness wouldn't work that's why I was okay letting it go for a cheaper price.

Yup.

I guess sans a kink in one of the lines the pump just isnt pumping hard enough. I have been wating my IAT2 hard on my config while I am driving and the temps are coming down very slow.

Once bled, the opt.b tank shouldnt really gurgle anymore.

Check all of your lines, and make sure they are hooked up correctly.

I can't remember how I hooked it up. I think it it:

pump out > laminovas > stock HE > FMHE > pump in

I am going to have to get under it I suppose. I hope there is just a kink in the line.

Problem resolved.

A hose clamp snapped but did not fall off. Instead it wedged between the bottom radiator bracket and the hose. There seemed to be enough pressure against the hose to keep it from leaking but it was letting air in (explains the gurgling in the option B).

Anyways, new clamp and new coolant with some water wetter and the temps are all good.
