lsj major problems

So my axle went to **** on me. The axle parts went and hit the timing chain cover. If it's just the timing chain cover that is broken will it leak major oil? Because I'm losing a lot of oil. Does that mean the block is damaged too? Will I have to get a whole new block?

The oil is coming from the hole in the chain cover. But I'm not sure if the block is damaged or not. But when I say it was a lot of oil. I ran it for like 10 seconds no revving and I lost about 3/4 of a quart.

Yes you will lose oil if the cover is broken and you run the car. Pull the cover and see if it hit the block.

How? Lol. Do I have to take the wheel and axle back out? I'm not super mechanically inclined. Also what are the chances that the block got damaged from it?

Yea, use your eyes and look at it. The is no voodoo way too check it. .. axle broke, and hit the outside. So I doubt your block is fucked up.

If you are not mechanically experienced then have the vehicle towed to a reputable shop in your area. I would doubt that you have a problem with the block, but do not start it anymore.

Yes. I looked when I had the axle torn apart. Is the timing chain cover cast aluminum? When I looked in I saw a rubber gasket. And a **** ton of metal pieces.

That look bad...

I'd have to check one of my cars but the cover is just that flat part in the front, what's missing on the bottom below the chain is block I believe. So you may need an engine.

Lol I need more than a cover. I need a block I'm pretty sure.

How well would welding that work? Would it hold up?

That is crazy. First time I've heard of a broken axle taking out the block.

Can I use some jbweld to cover this hole and use some duct tape to make a "mold"? I'm just going to get a whole new timing cover. Just trying to find a cheaper alternative. The oil that goes through the timing chain isn't pressurized at all is it? Just as long as I can seal the hole will this work?

If you cheap your way into fixing the problem it wont last trust me. Just do it the correct way take it to a shop and have them tell you what you really need and maybe the can fix it if not just buy the whole block

I mean I don't see why this wouldn't work though? As long as I make sure there are no leaks it'll be fine right? It's not like there is any pressure. It's just a hole on the piece that you bolt the timing cover onto.

It broke the cover. But there is also a lip that extends past the timing chain so the cover has a way to bolt on to the block. That lip has a hole in it. I need a cover but even when I replace it that hole in the lip will still be there.
