i dunno bout that seeing as i hit a guard rail straight on at 75 mph and walked away with out even a scratch. the design isnt the problem seeing as ur the first ive seen with these problems. maybe the dealer keeps ******* up with the repairs, it could be any number of things.

from what i saw, nothing is damaged except for my rim (no insurance!) and my steering knuckle is broken in half... looks like my half shaft and my strut are actually fine and straight...

INsurance!!! you did the EXACT same thing as me...its gonna be 4600 to repair give or take....get the insurance!! Lower control arm and probobly some axel damage..probly upper control arm too...I wouldnt risk it man...Gonna be WAY expensive!!

Your "steering knuckle" is actually the lower control arm...all the strength and load bearing from your tire are on this....

i am going thru insurance...

even if I COULD do the work myself, i have no way of moving it to my house to work on it... it was towed today to the local chevy dealer and will be fixed.

theres grease everywhere and my rim is very scratched.

I can honestly say I feel for you on this one. grease everywhere means the halfshaft was pulled out of the tranny due to no support form the lower control arm. only difference is when i did it is i put it in reverse and tried to back off the curb and my whole tire and all things attached except the break fell of and landed on the curb - barely attached...they fixed it all though. Good Luck!! Keep us updated!!

I really wonder how she is doing with that?? She disappeared cause people gave her a hard time.
You should do a search to find her, since you both believe the same thing maybe you can help each other!

Good Luck with That!
No he directly stole what she wrote in another thread and posted it under his own name. See below.

It has to do with the way they have designed these cars. they are junk and a death trap. i have been talking to the headquarters...do you by any chance have the reciepts of those fixes? mine has been in 4 times... and i have been talked to an attorney about these defective cars... chevy isnt fixing them they are covering it up until they go out of warranty... i only have 6,000 miles on my car. I talked to the girl who had it before and it almost killed her..

they wont do anything. ive already talked to district manager. they wont do anything about the problems. what is wrong with your car? I am getting people together. to collect all the information i can. i have been talking to an attorney. these cars are death traps...
please contact me.

that wont fix the problem. i already had that done. intermediate shaft.... both sway links...tired twice... radio...you name its been done. they were not made correctly..

doesn't fix the problem....

GM will not. ive talked to them and they are ridiculous. these cars are death traps. i am gathering information on them...so if you have any receipts please let me know. i have contacted an attorney...
At any rate, OP, you should really get it towed somewhere where you can get it up on a lift and look at it more thoroughly. More details on what happened at the time when you hit the curb? Did you hit it square? I'm guessing no since you were making a u-turn. My guess is you took out quite a lot of stuff. Just start from the wheel and work inward looking at every piece as you go. Best case would be to do it on a lift so you can see better. I would guess axle, spindle, strut, lower and possibly upper control arms, perhaps bent the sway bar and link, if the wheels were cut you could have fubar'd the tie rod. I bet you find a LOT of carnage under there.

How the hell did I not see the second half of this thread? I thought I'd read all the way down to the end.

Anyway, sucks to hear about the total cost. That's a hefty chunk of change, but at least it'll be fixed and fixed right. Just watch out for those killer curbs next time!

Ok I must not be getting this. You attempted to pull a bootlegger and forgot you had fwd, struck a curb, and instead of looking like vin diesel, you came out looking like steve erkle. Now, that makes all cobalts death traps and there should be a national recall?

FYI Bootleggers only work in RWD cars... if youhave a soft shoulder just make sure one side's tires are in the soft shoulder, check you're mirror, turn hard left and give er some solid gas... lmao

I hope you understand my sarcasm here...

Hope all turns out well here, but the point about this being all GM's fault , is kind comical. I must be missing something here as I skimmed a lot of the posts. If it is true though, Next time I spin my front tires I am blaming Pirelli foir making deathtrap tires...

Nah, the OP simply misjudged a u-turn, that was some threadjacker that jumped in saying Cobalts were deathtraps.

Ok, I knew it wasnt like that.... thank god... game on...

However my advice about the bootlegger is legit though

If you're gonna do one in the LS, youre only choice is the e brake while heading down a steep hill.

i never thought of my cobalt being this "deathtrap"

just when other people say they are, and i started to think about it... maybe the front under carriage is a little weak?

maybe not?

either way... my car got pretty messed up...

yeah, maybe it was... heck, ill admit it... it WAS stupid to drop it in first slam the gas down when my tires were turned all the way to the left... i never knew there was a curb there, and seeing how it was around 1 oclock in the morning, i didnt even see it. if you look at the picture, its an asphalt curb that blends in with the road, so unless you stare at it, you probably wont notice theres a curb there til it is toooo late... i was just trying to wonder WHAT i broke, what POSSIBLY could of broke/bent/things of that nature... yes, i am 1 dumb kid for spinning a donut in a FWD... point taken. thanks for the guys who were trying to help out by listing what could of possibly snapped/bent under the pressure of the curb. that was the point of this thread...

not to call the cobalts death traps
and not to constantly insult for the stupid mistake.

thanks for the free bump though
