so yesterday i go outside after work get in my car to go home and as i start taking off i notice the back end was dragging so i look down and my handbrake is down of course so im thinking wth? there is about 4inchs of snow out and its bout 12 degrees btw. so i stop and start again same thing i look in my rear view and a buddy of mine is waiving his arms and yelling so i stop he comes up to my window and says "dude ur rear wheels arent turning do you have ur handbrake up im like no wth is wrong with the brakes? so i drive back and forth a couple times and finally they brake loose....im guesing they froze because of the cold weather and snow, so now when i pull up my handbrake the cable inside or something is making a squeaking noise and goes up a little farther then it did before! does anyone no what could be the problem, also anyone else ever seen this? thanks guys!

 

My hand brake siezed on. Had to tap the drum a few times with a hammer to get it free. How common is this problem and should it be fixed under warranty?

 

try and not set your parking brake i think what is happening is when you stop and set it the brakes are warm and when it sits it makes ice and presto your rear wheels are locking up. the noise could be from the cold. I dont even think about setting the park brake here in montana
