I knew you had to pay to play but DAMMMMMMMNNNNit lol

i guess even a 2.7 your not safe with agressive tuning etc...

if a ring land is gone is that a piston failure or is that a different category?

Ringland is piston failure. It's where the rings are in the piston. If you don't have sleeve damage, its as simple as swapping out old pistons/rings with new ones. Although the sleeves will need to be honed and it is recommended to remove the block to do that. But if you don't have sleeve damange AND your rings are ok, then you can re-use the old rings with new pistons and not even hone. Then it's real easy fix, just swap and go. It's the little things that get your wallet, like bolts and gaskets.

You might get lucky and they might just fix it all under warranty with a new motor.

yea they have been really nice about it so far, and they will probably tell me before they rip the motor apart if they are going to warranty it or not.... we will see.....

well since it was raining all of yesterday and all of today with some breaks i had a chance to start it up and see if air was coming from the dipstick.

and since its like45 degrees here i could visibly see air coming out of the dipstick hole when open...

so headgasket? or could it still be piston/rings?

definately looks like oil and coolant! unscrew your oil cap and look inside and see if you see the same substance. if you do don't drive your car. call the dealership and tell them to send a tow truck.

The air coming out of dipstick points to blowby. Which means crankcase leak, which means piston/ringland.

No, not headgasket. When oil and dexcool mix, it doesn't look like that, contrary to what people say. Dexcool makes the oil look the same color if not slightly darker. It only lightens up if you have the green stuff installed as coolant. Its definetly blowby.

if they do not cover this under warranty, (probably wont) what kind of labor are we talking from the dealership? do you have any idea?

Dealership will probably rape ya with cost. And they usually won't use aftermarket partts, so you will be buying weaker and more expensive OEM stuff.

I would buy new pistons/rings and call around other shops to get price quotes. Or do it yourself but I dont know if your up to that.

Somewhere around 12.4 hours of labor if they do a complete swap of a new engine. An engine rebuild is 26.8 hours of labor.
