no fuel pressure? ignition issue?
Hi I hope im posting in the right area I have a 2008 cobalt sport. A cew days ago I was on my way to work and heard a thud and the motor went out. Found bout the thud was the wires being broke on the fuel tank pressure sensor so reconnected the wires and the code for that went away but I now have a p0230. The code is for a malfunction on the fuel pump wiring somewhere. I put a new relay and nothing. Still no pressure or no fuel puml running. I checked were the relay plugs in and only the constant hot has any electricity. I tested with the the key in the on position. Could this be a bad ignition switch or some random electrical stuff
I was hoping to not have to drop the tank. Also I the fuel relay is not activating when I turn the ignition on I ran a wire from it to tye positive post and could hear the pump turn on but still no pressure gonna drop the tank and see whats going on tomorrow.

Pull the connector off and make sure none of the terminals got yanked out.
Those wires got broke somehow. See if you can trace back the wires to the point of friction and making sure none of them are shorting out.
If the pump works when you wire it direct, the wiring is fine. The relay won't stay on long if you can't keep the car running.
Have you checked the fuel pressure at the rail service port?
I would think, if the pump runs and you have no pressure, you either have an external leak which should be very obvious, or the regulator blew off inside the tank, which would explain the thud and the no pressure condition.
GL with it, let us know what you find when you remove the tank. It isn't hard to remove. A little heavy if it's full but not bad.

I checked the service port and no pressure I pulled the fuel lines off of the fuel filter and ran the pump and there was barely a trickle of gas coming out so im about 95% sure at this point its the fuel pump. Havent had time to drop the tank and it was below hald tank as long as the weather holds ill try today to drop it.

Well just pulled the tank and the thud I heard was the fuel pump pretty much exploding into pieces ill post the pics in a bit. Theres bits all over.
The link is for the picture of the fuel pump

Ok got new fuel pump installed. At first no pressure bit when I bypass the relay again I now get pressure. The relay isnt being turned on. So im goin to back track the power coming to the relay from pcm and maybe rhe ignition. Does anyone know what the voltage is to activate a relay?
