no powersteering?

My 09 LT loses power steering after being parked several times consecutively (lots of steering wheel movement). The power steering is gone only when the car isn't moving. There isn't a problem when it is. It would take a long time before power steering gets restored for when the car isn't moving. What gives? Is it because the motor is overheating or is it a prevention so the power steering doesn't rob the battery of all its power?

My car would do that after it was parked for a long period of time.

I got the steering column replaced under warranty and I haven't had a problem since.

Its the VSS vehicle speed sensor. The power steering is speed sensitive, so when this sensor goes out, so does the power steering
