not staying in 5th gear help!

So I was driving on the freeway and all of a sudden it popped out of 5th gear. I figure oh well and **** if back in and then it popped back out 5 seconds later. It feels like nothing his holding it in gear. Also if I hold it in gear it drives normal, and all other gears act normal.

forgot to say its a 2006 ss/sc

I had this happen to my 07 ss/sc, except holding it in gear wouldn't work at all. They warrantied the transmission. are you still under powertrain warranty?

5th gear is easy to get at. Its in the end of the trans under that small cover. You can work on it right in the drivers side wheel well. I have some spare 5th gear parts because I blew mine all to **** at 1000 miles . Gm couldnt get the parts and I found some used parts out of a wreck with 2000 miles on it. After that I bought a cracked case trans out of another 2009 for $100 and took the guts out of it. The F35 parts are on national back order from GM. Try adjusting your shifter first. I aslo have the guts out of 2 4.45 Saab trans. If you need anything text or call me at 412 915 3183

Heres a parts list and diagram

Look at the parts numbered 18 to 24

Thanks guys for all the replies. I forgot to check it, been busy over the holidays. Now that I'm done buying gifts I can look at fixing this.. having to stay under 60 in 4th gear on highways is getting really annoying.
