I have been trying to get my check engine light checked. For some reason the cannot get a reading from my car. Any idea on what it could be??? Is there a fuse? If so which one would it be? Thanks in advance for all the help

its probably the scanner. either not updated with the latest software or not compatible with newer obd2

Assuming that you are using the correct scanner and it still won't communicate with the OBD2 then the PCM has probably taken a dump.

its the scanner. if they havent updated it, it will not read it. i've had the same problem at the shop i take my car too. my friend has one of the lil scanners you can get at the parts store and it will read just fine.

The OBD2 port is on the cigarette lighter fuse.

Why are you guys saying it's his scanner? You don't even know what kind he is using.

just because thats the most common problem. people ask that all the time and 99% of the time its an old obd2 scanner that just wont work.

is the scan tool not powering up, or just unable to comunicate with the vehicle??? if its not powering up, check your fuses. if your unable to pull codes head to autozone or a parts store and have them read the code. if they are unable to there is a deeper issue with your car.

if the pcm took a ****, the least of his problems would be the scanner not reading...

Replaced fuse for cigarrette lighter and obd still doesn't communicate.

Purchased my 06 chevy cobalt LS last year passed emissions. Have to renew plates this year and was told I didn't pass emissions because obd isn't communicating. Replaced blown fuse n it still doesn't work?! Any suggestions?
