Im sure this is a repost X10 but because i dont see the exact words, I need to word it my way...So anyways are our cars designed to run Mobil 1? will another synthetic damage the motor? void my warrenty?...I can get Havoline synthetic for dirt cheap (best friend sells it) as he said as long as it is "safe" he will look up the specs and see how much different the two oils are (he says prolly not alot) but hes gonna check anyways.. So i would like to go that route if possible..So any GM Guys in here or Mechanics Speak up!! Thanks in advance...

Castrol syntec
Mobil 1
Amsoil
Valvoline (synthetic)

They all met GM Standard 4718M


This standard must be met otherwise your warranty is void.

Not sure what havoline is....do you mean Valvoline?

do our cars come from the factory with synthetic oil in them? Ive always wondered because the oil life meter doesnt seem to drop very fast. I have like 1500 on my new 06 LS and its reading around 85% oil life left. However the owners manual says to change the oil every 3000 miles or 3 months and I thaught synthetic oil was suppost to last like 5000 miles or more before you had to change it

i don't think base models come with synthetic... i think only both ss models do... i could be wrong... btw 70 dollars for a ****** oil change at my dealer... 6 quart mobil 1 synthetic, filter and labor.... yeah gotta love synthetic.... but i ran the **** out of my car for 8000 miles that oil was not very black, and i changed it at 20%... i know i let it get a little to low....

factory is synthetic oil mobil 1 for the SS S/C ONLY!

Thanks for your help!! Havoline is a Canadian division of Texaco..That might sound more familiar to yu...But the gm number you gave me will be very helpful...

ah a fellow Canadain! Canadain Tire carries Amsoil, Mobil 1 and Valvoline.

Who did your oil change??

At MR LUBE a synthetic pgk is about $75

So should i just ask my dealer what kind of oil i should use in it or does someone know what is factory for the base models

2.2L and 2.4L Must meet GM Standard 6094M.

They can run synthetic but don't come with it from the factory.

We REALLY need a sticky on this! After all the posts about this subject!
