Oil starvation

Hi there - I took this pic so I could see whether or not oil starvation was behind the seizure of the 2.4L engine.

Any suggestions on how to clean it up? Thought steel wool but better not forget chemical first might be less hard on the material. So maybe MEK?

Looks like a valve cover off one of our poor maintenance engines. We see a lot of 2.4's that carbon up if the oil isn't changed every 3k with full syn. Makes the rings stick and burn oil but you never see it bc the cat cleans it up. what does the head look like? You can try full strength simple green soak or carb cleaner soak. Will still need some brush work after though but those should help a lot.

Pretty much what mine looked like when I pulled the cover to change the gasket. A product of the previous owner, not mine. Simple green and scotch brite was pretty much all I needed to clean it up. Were you able to pull the head off yet?

We definitely would need to see the bottom end or at least the cam journals; that valve cover is not indicative of any specific failure. If the oil is burnt on though, that indicates a lack of maintenance.

oil type has nothing to do with his problems the problem stems from a high fuel to oil dilution which causes excessive oil burn off and the only way to stop that is to up the oil weight or lean the engine out or shorter oil change intervals

I wasn't saying that was his problem specifically just that his cover looked like ones I see at work bc they run cheap conventional way too long.

I've been meaning to take my valve cover off, but I'm afraid of what I might see
Been thinking about painting parts of my engine to match the car.

FYI for the critical - I run synthetic and I change it when the oil level in the DIC gets to 5-10%.

again oil type is not the cause of his problems or why his valve cover is in the condition it is

Never know till you check. I don't trust the oil life system personally bc ive seen it be the cause of ignorant failures too many times. Its a good reminder but not something id hold as the only truth. Im working on getting spare parts to be powder coated for my engine, already scored a new manifold from zzp overstock sales for 35 dollars. Hopefully I can score a valve cover one of these days. Hawk was gonna do it for me when I decide a color and ship it to him but idk if he is gonna have the time now being he is mia.

I should be keeping a book on my fluid changes. I used to do that with my older vehicles, I don't know why I stopped.
When I fully recover from my injuries, I'll take it apart and show you some pics to see where I stand. I've been pretty religious trying to keep the car well maintained.

I am keeping a full log of everything on my ss, my ls though... mostly by memory I try to stick to even cycles so its harder to forget like trans fluid every 40k, brake fluid 25k, coolant every 4years. How many miles are you at now on that thing?

I'm closing in on 200,000KM or 124,274 miles.

Not to bad for 11 year old car. Id be saving for full chain, guide, and actuator replacement though. Working on that for my ls now, its at 117k and starting to get a little rattle from the front when its cold.
