When standing infront of the car:
The water pump is on the left hand side of the motor
And the tstat is on the right hand side right behind the exhaust manifold
There is a odd shape aluminum tubw that connects the water pump to the tstat and tstat housing.
Inside that housing ( right hand side of the motor ) goes ** in order of removal ** first the black sleve- which has grooves and a cut out for coolant to flow into the heater core, then the thermostat.
When putting it back tpgether, the thermostat goes in first, then the black sleve.
Align that ****** up, hold the O ring inplace and connect the aluminum tube. You will know what im talking about once you are in there.

These tstats, as far as i know, the ss/tc is different, the thermostats can in fact fit in two different ways. But the correct way is tstat first then te black sleeve . Tstat then black sleve will fit but not flow coolant

ok then thermostat on right side water pump on the right...iv had the thermostat and its housing on and off 3 times already...maybe because I'm ot getting all the hoses off or somethin I am clueless as to what the black sleeve is..is it actually inside the housing? dam near all the work has to be done from the top am I right?...these notches you are talkin about...are they on the upper or lower thermostat housing?...and mine is an sc...so I'm wonderin if some things are a little different ...sorry if this is becoming monogomous but I really need this issue solved.

Listen to powell. It's either air locked or your pump is not working.

Yes I see no black sleeve...there are black hoses...and a black o ring that fits on top the tstat...from under there I see the water pump feedline from the pump to the bottom housing of the tstat..then put the thermostat with the spring up into the top housing?...

two black o rings. one inside the t stat you cant access easily and should leave alone and one is already fitted to the outside of the t stat upper plate. it fits spring down into the cavity, the t stat housing goes on top, two 6 x1 mm bolts torqued to 89 INCH pounds.

are you sure you got all the air out of the system?

In the L.61 2.2 thermostat mounting is horizontal and 2.0 the housing is roughly vertical. the 2.2 has an orientation the t state with the bulb cradle vertically positioned; the 2.0 does not have an orientation specified; both the thermostat housings 2.2 and 2.0 are secured with two bolts.
You must fill from the top hose; until the hose is full and you will spill a little pushing it onto the head nipple. so be it.

this is the 2.2. check the orientation

Ok talked to a mechanic n he believes its an air lock in the heater core...so he told me to remove the heater core lines and let them drain...he said be careful with the plastic clips...but the only ones I see on the heater core lines are metal...does anyone have any feedback about this proposition?

not the heater core with an air lock. really.
internet diagnosis sucks.
check for blockage in the rad core; hoses kinked large and small; pressure test system. etc etc fill it properly by the book.

I've filled the cooling system through the resivoir a few times with no problems. And our heater cores have aluminum dinks with rubber hose clamped onto them. Probably not an air lock in the heater core tho. Do u have heat?
