P0128 code
P0128 code
I have this CEL on my Balt(coolant temp too low) and bought a new thermostat...my cars temp runs about 148 in traffic and 130 when driving.. Question is that should a new thermostat fix this problem or is it something else

If that doesnt help.
Disconnect the ECT sensor.
Inspect for the following conditions:
• Engine coolant leaking through the ECT sensor
• Corrosion on the ECT sensor terminals
• Improper or corroded terminals at the ECT harness connector
• Loose terminals in the ECT harness connector
Measure the resistance of the ECT sensor signal circuit between the sensor and the PCM with a DMM. Refer to Circuit Testing .
Is the resistance within the specified range?
0-10 ohms
If you find nothing
Replace the ECT sensor.
Disconnect the ECT sensor.

I did not have a code but mine would cruise at 180 and drop to 172-170 when in the gas more than moderate driving. I believe a thermostat is all you need based on what you have given for info

They're right its your thermostat I promise, I had the same problem, and even though I found a way to dodge the CEL and the temp --- marks, its still a pain in the butt.
If you look at the space between the motor and the firewall towards the right side, you should see some insulated piping going into a ball like thing, from there you see two wires, they are connected to the temperature sensor which you wanted to know about, however inside this ball as well is the thermostat you need to replace. Be careful though, open it up or remove the sensor and you'll find coolant running all over the place...
