Please Help!! May have fried the PCM
Today I was filling the hidden 4th mount under the fuse box with polyurethane, and in the process, touched the positive hot wire to the PCM. There were sparks and some smoke, so I'm pretty sure I fried it. Hopefully I didn't melt some wires into it, but I think that's most likely what happened. Yes I know, I should have disconnected the battery before even starting, but I was a complete idiot and forgot.
All of the power stuff works (locks, DIC, radio, etc.) but the engine won't start. The check engine light is on too.
Is there any chance that I did not totally screw the PCM? I'll probably take it to the dealer tomorrow, and best case scenario they can just reflash it, worst case scenario I have to buy a new PCM and there is going to be some serious labor hours getting all the melted wires out of the old one. Maybe I should just get the Stage 2 reflash while they're in there, or better yet, a Stage 3 PCM? Anyway, thanks guys.

door locks windows and radio are controlled by the bcm, the pcm controls engine functions. scan the vehicle and bet your will find lost communication codes which are u1000 i think
find a used pcm because a new one will cost about 400 and you have to have a code to get the stage reflashes

Does at least try to turn over?
I crossed a wire once and it was the fuse to the fuel pump (crossed a totally unrelated wire on a 02 sensor) - replaced the fuse and it started up right away.

No, nothing happens. Headlights & wipers don't work either. I checked all the fuses and they all look good. Hopefully the dealer can figure it out quickly this week.

Well I took it to the dealer this morning & said I didn't know what was wrong, so we'll see what happens. Hopefully it's easily fixable and they can't trace the problem back to me.

Me too. Everyone I talk to seems to think the PCM will be fine and it's most likely a fuse or wire somewhere that needsd to be replaced. Although I wouldn't mind an excuse to get the ZZP PCM
edit: Well, dealer called and said they replaced the PCM and a couple fuses and it runs like new. I'm happy, can't wait to drive it home and feel the poly mounts for the first time.

why is it ok for you people to outrightly lie to the dealer to fix a problem you created by being stupid and have general motors pay for it? I work at a dealer and get real tired of all the 'stealership' bashing that goes on but its ok for people to **** the dealer? If you fucked it up then YOU should pay for it!!!

Whoa, chill-out dude. Don't you get paid either way? What does it matter to you? I can tell you that fixing things under warranty that were actually the result of the user is the LEAST of GM's worries right now. I would have paid for it if they would have said that I must have done something. It's something that could have easily happened without me doing it anyway. Fuses short out all the time.
And for the record, I didn't "outright lie" to the dealer. I told them the car wouldn't start, and that was the truth. They never asked why. So if you never tell your girlfriend that you had sex with Betty Sue 5 years ago, are you lying to her?
