problem with idle. please help.

Ok well as a few of you know I was in a bad car accident that left me kinda bed ridden for a few weeks. Well yesterday when I went to start my car it started fine but when it went to an idle it started missing and kinda hesitating. Then after driving it for a while I let it idle and it was running 900 rpms. And sounding like ****. I revved it a little and all I could smell was fuel. Like its too rich. Any ideas guys?

Bump.... please help

Yeah thanks!
No one wants to help!

Alittle more information would be helpful. I don't know about the accident so you will need to fill in a bit. What happened to the car? Has it been repaired after the accident?

Not throwing any codes? My car idles at about 900 RPM all the time so I don't see that being a problem. How is the car driving? You say it is missing at idle but how is it when driving? When you say it sounds like ****, are you saying the exhaust sounds different? Do you have any mods done? Last but not least, how much gas is in the tank and have you filled it up since you starting driving again?

We'll the idle used to be at 1100. If you listen to the engine idle its missing every once in a while. I have and intense stg 3 and injen cai. I had to get it tuned at the dealership a while back. It drives allright no boost lost, no power lost, no hesitating. It has a half a tank in it, its had that for two weeks.

generally when i see idle problems i think throttlebody, however it could be a leak in the intake.

If your not mechanically inclined however, check the spark plugs and wires

I'll check my spark plugs and wires plus my intake to see what's going on.

If it was fine before it sat for two weeks, I would guess that the problem was in the fuel. I'd at least run all the old gas out of it, refill it then see what it does.

where was the car stored at? Any chance some mice or something may have built a nest in your intake. Or maybe soembody put something in the gas tank and clogged the fuel filter? I am just throwing out some ideas because I don't know what could have gone wrong with it just sitting for 2 weeks.... and if it isn't throwing any codes, just idling rough it would have to be either a fuel or spark problem.... ??

Could it be your injectors, are a bit gummed up and might clear itself after driving a couple of days.
Maybe try some injector cleaner in the gas cant hurt.

hey guys with the idle problem and seem to be burning excess fuel.. try this... Common problem especially with 2.0L Supercharged balts with aftermarket cold air intake. For some reason in many cases there is some gunk that builds up slightly right at the throttle body causing the valve to slightly stick and the computer compensates by opening it up further causing your idle to fluctuate from like 400-1400rpm in extreme cases and sometimes even stalling the car. This is a easy fix that doesnt need you to take it to the dealer. Simply remove your intake and remove your throttle body which is attached with 4-10mm bolts, 1-vacuum line, 1-electrical plug. And spray the crap out of it with standard throttle body cleaner. Make sure to gently move the valve and spray around it to completely clean this out. Once completed, assemble everything back to normal and fire up the vehicle and let run for about 5-15 minutes. Right after you start the car then remove the vacuum hose attached to the cold air intake and give a short shot of the throttle body cleaner spray so this will help clean some of the gunk that is past the throttle body and then reattach the line. Let me know what your results our as I am almost certain that this will fix almost all other idle misfire issues out there.
