My fiancées cobalt has a problem starting after getting gas. It happens every time. It shut off last week when she came to stop. First and only time it has ever happened. It took about 15 minutes to start back up. No codes, no CEL. The dealer replaced the fuel pump for the recall for "cracking". Any ideas please help.

 

I assume you plugged a code reader into it to make sure there are no codes.

It sounds like an EVAP system failure. On the SS line it's usually the evap purge selenoid. Then you move on to evap tank selenoid, then bad gas cap.

 

When the gas pump clicks off does she top it off, or just leave it? Topping it off can make these cars cranky and not want to start right away.

 

I'm getting this too my car will take 10+ secs of cranking to start after I fill up

 

sounds to me like the evap purge solenoid ive had this problem replaced it and boom car back to normal

Well I can call bs on that cause I used to fill till I saw gas sitting in the fuel hose and not going down. Never had starting issue. Only issue I had is I broke the evap system canister under by tank. Only reason I don't do it anymore.

 

Hence why I said "can". Not all cars do it, some will. Mine did.

I have to replace mine in about 35k intervals
Not wanting to start after filling has been the first sign

 

yessir cheap part and takes 2 min to switch out

 

This seems to happen a lot with the Cobalt which is any easy fix by changing the evap solenoid

 

it does hahaha. ive had to do it on both of my cobalts and 3 of my buddies had to do it to theirs lol recalll???? hahaha

 

I'm on my 4th one at 83k miles

I bought a 6 pack of them on ebay and leave them in the glove box.

 

I guess they get gummed up with oil just like our map sensors. I bet a Powell oil separator would help them live longer
