puffs of smoke

Hey gang,

While driving last night with some friends, after stopping at one of the stops, my buddy came up and said

"due, when you got on it back there, there were puffs of white smoke coming out the exhaust"

Said it didn't happen all the time, but when I accelerated harder ( on ramps ) or sometimes when shifting geears during acceleration under load ( climbing hills ).

The only times I heard of whilte smoke out the pipe is oil issues, or a head gasket issue. The head gasket one would be more a constant thing I think..

Anyway.... anyone else having this or had it?? Should I be greatly worried??

I swithced gases, both maker, and octane ( now 93 instead of 91 ).... would that make a difference there??

THanks

Wow.... I would definately be taken it in if the smoke was readily noticeable. Looks like you've not really done much in the way of mods, so I wouldn't think it would be a valvetrain issue for you.
I would definatley be talking to them about it.

I noticed while washing it this morning, there was a white-ish buildup on the bottom of the exhuast tip.. on the inside like where residual water and carbon would sit. I don't know it thats related to my issue. Maybe it's some film from washing that is getting burned off while driving.. i dunno.

car is 9 months old now, and has almost 25K on it, so I'm worried aht it's going to be out of warranty, and then something lets loose.

We'll see.

Had the car been running long? White smoke is usually condensation build up that the engine is burning off.

Oil has a blue tinge to it.

It's easy enough to check, pull your dipstick or have the oil changed and check for water in the oil. If you've got it, then you have a problem, if not, then it's probably just condensation.

Some of that is kinda true. Ill try to give my advice on the matter:
Tailpipe colors with there problems...

Black Smoke= Running Rich
White Smoke= Coolant in Combustion Chamber
Blue Smoke= Burning oil...could be a combination of other problems leading to this.

thanks for the advice guys.

The oil is almost due for it's change, so I'll ask them to look into it.

I've seen what it looks like when a headgasket goes, and that white smoke, and I've seen the black and the blue as well.

I talked to the guy that noticed it when I saw him last night, and he said it was so slight that he barely saw it. Also he agreed with me that between the cool, humid air, and that the car was running for maybe 10 minutes, it might have had alot to do with it.

I've noticed nothing else, and no one saw it yesterday, so who knows.

If something coems of it, I'll let yuo know what happens.

Yeah, I hear that's normal ( the blackening of the inside of the tip ).

I had a fellow SS.net member riding behind me yesterday and he noticed no puffs, so who knows. I know I was getting on it then, so maybe it was a combo of the weather, and exhuast temps.

The car runs soo damm good stock I'm going to get all giddy and twitchy when I acutally start the mods...lol

Thanks again everyone for the insight, and comments.
