Question for all 4 door cobalt owners... Any trim model
Ok, i was waxing inside my doors and on the insde of the apillar this past sunday, and on the driver side at the top between the front and back door( like where the curve starts and the post meets the roof) there is a split/crack/gap in the metal! I mean quite large, maybe a millameter wide on the front side and about 4 inches long, the back is about half as big... The passenger side of the car has no cracks or mark whatsoever. I would post pics but im at work on break using my iphone. Let me know if you do or dont have cracks and what year yours is. Mine is 2009 SS model
Humm... More than one person has to have read this... The spot were looking at is at the back of the front door and the front of the back door, at the top where that center pillar meets the roof... Please repily if you do or do not have cracks there.... Pics at 12 am eastern when i get home
Well.. heres this pics.... what do you guys think i should say to the dealer? i mean i really dont want to pay full price for a car with a defect or a car with body work... i mean.. it will obviously never be "perfect" because its always going to have been worked on... not that its a big deal... but i think there should be some cash back involved here... what do you guys think?
This is the back door... its smaller than the front one...

This is the front door... quite big.

Close up of the front crack.

Anyone tell me how to make big pics on the post? BTW..?

Alright, well i finally got an update on this ****.... the dealership, or stealership,(whatever you prefer) kept giving me the run around and i couldn't even seem to get there when the service manager was there, and when i finally did he just wanted to weld them up and paint it and i "wouldn't even know it was there"... but i told them i wanted cash or a new car, i'm not paying full price for a defected car, not only is it a defect, but its damage, like, irreversible damage that even if welded probably isnt going to be as safe as a regular one that never was worked on... well they said thats not possible for me to get any compensation for "warrenty" work... so i told them that i would be back.. my uncle has an autobody shop, and i took it up to have him look at it, as well as my dad, they both said what i said.. ...new car!!... so i took my dad down there, he has some audobody experience and also bought some cars from there before. After a surprisingly short talk about how much work would actually be involved with completely replacing the "uni side" of the car, (i believe he called it) which includes about everything except the doors and front fender from the taillight to the headlight, he sent us to the pontiac dealership owned by the same guy.
Well we get to this place, this guy knows his ****, he says hes worked here for like 30 years and there arent very many things that constitute a new car... like he knew he was gonna win, were like "just come look at this, we wouldent be here for nothing" i open the door he looks at it, gets a look like HOLY **** on his face and kinda jumps forward to see it closer, and just says, "...wow... how did that get through" said he really has never seen a defect that obvious make it through, basically keeled over and gave us the GM service number and i talked to them for a little bit, they called the dealership and had them send the pics they took over, and said there going to send a GM rep out monday or tuesday...
Long story shot for those of you with ADD... i think i'm getting a new one!
now i just gotta remove my headlights and taillights and LED reverse lights and dome lights and licence plate lights, and my shorty antenna.... and i'll be sittin pretty with a spankin new SS!! got screwd out of my rain guards tho! )o:

That is certainly a new car. Looks like a defect in the unibody.
For a car with an actual frame, that would be a weld and paint over job... but given the fact that the body of these cars ARE THE FRAME, then it is a safety issue.

Well, its been a long time since ive been on here, and i figured i'd give you all the low down on what happened with this whole situation. Well, after 4 days in court, i lost... I sued GM on the lemon law... If you research the lemon law it says that a defect in a vehicle that has been unsuccessfully repaired 3 times or a defect that after repair will severly deminish the value of the vehicle, constitutes a new car. I was banking on the 2nd part... The dealership wanted to repair the car with a passion (and eventually did and actually hid it quite well) and i never let them, because of the principle of what happened... The car was majorly defective, and i wasnt letting them hide the evidence....
Back a page, i was going through a divorce, and i have a daughter, and the divorce was caused by my ex finding a new guy at her job and leaving me with the debt and stress... Upon which i literally lost 90% of my hair(its back now... Crazyst thing of my life) and to look reasonably decent for this full on jury trial in pittsburgh, i shaved my head bic bald....
The judge was about 50, ex navy seal, and said that "you dont know if the value of my car has been deminished or not because you never got it repaired".... Also... My uncle, who (look it up) owns and operates cochran auto body in franklin PA, was not a specialist in body work because hes not certified through "ICAR" even though he has 2 other certifications through 2 different schools, not to mention has been practicing his trade for 20+ years not to mention being a teacher at george JR high....
Also a key point during the trial, my lawyer was questioning their body man with this..:
"is there a tool that you can measure the thickness of metal, without harming the paint"? - (him)"yes"
"does your shop have one"? - "yes"
"did you use it?". (judge inturrupts) "counceler, this has been answered".
"sir, i asked if it existed, if they owned one, and now i asked if he used it..". (judge) "THIS HAS BEEN ASKED AND ANSWERED..... MOVE ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!". (literallly screaming)
So, long story short, the judge profiled me, and i lost..... And due to this divorce (after about a year of barely making the payment) i had to let the car go to the bank... A beautiful, washed and waxed weekly silver ss sedan with 41k miles sold at auction for 9k.... I loved this car... Loved it... I think about it more than my ex.... And want it back with a passion..... I loved that car... I rubbed it more than my ex... I loved that car... I still dream about it to this day.... Nothing like a NLS to make you smile a bit... And carving a back road here in PA will never be matched by another car in my opnion....
If that judge wouldnt have been so quick to judge me, i would have gotten the $ back i disirved, and my one and only passion, and hobby wouldnt have been taken from me....
Before you guys jump into the seat of a new ride, remember where that sleeper SS has taken you... And how accustomed you have become to holding the pedal to the floor and hearing that POP.... Not too many cars sound so sweet.... Idling cobalts on youtube brings tears to my eyes.... Pics of my own makes me cry. As bad as it sounds, it was all i had after that divorce.... And i loved it.... And it will never be replaced....
I'll get another one someday... But it will never be the same as watching the odometer roll 100...200...1000... Changing your own oil, making sure your baby treats you right at 130mph revved out in 4th.... I didnt BEAT this car... But i did use what it provided and loved every minute.... If someone here has this car.... It had a damaged left rear caliper.... Anyone have it..?

Pretty sad story, can't believe judge boned you on this but GM has too much money and too good of lawyers. I would say check out the regional forum to see if anyone on here has it.
