running lean

I am getting code p0171, or i am running lean....
These are my mods

GMPP Stage 2 Performance Kit
TTR Motor Mount
Vibrant Header/Downpipe Combo
Hahn 3” Catback Exhaust
ZZP Heat Exchanger
R.A.W. Cold Air Intake
GMPP Option B Tank Kit
Spec Stage 2+ Clutch
Aamco Lightweight Flywheel

i am planning on switching to a 2.9 pully... but leaving the gm tune, will this help at all?

no, it won't help at all. smaller pulleys and leaving everything else stock will make you run more lean. make sure everthing is tight around your intake. all the connectors, filter, etc. it's very common to get that code with an intake on the car, almost everyone will get it at some point. if you're very concerned you can get a wideband.

it's not from the catback... p0171 is from the maf. long story short the maf is reading more air than it's supposed to. if you delete the code it may not come back.

very common with aftermarket intakes. like i said, almost everyone will get that code at one point or another. when i had my 2.2 took over a year to get the code. deleted it, never came back. on my 2.0, i got it pretty quick. deleted it, never came back.

thats not actualy correct. the maf reads the air going in and the pcm calculates the required fuel for that airflow. the o2 sensor then picks up the oxygen in the exhaust stream, and if it shows the engine is running lean it will try to correct it in the short term fuel trims, and will eventualy cause a lean code (p0171).

now the reason cars with aftermarket intakes tend to set this code is because the piping is now larger and not 100% of the incomming air is getting metered. basicly the maf doesnt read all the air comming in so the pcm doesnt supply enough fuel for the correct mixture.

i would clear the code and see if it comes back, if it does, the only real way to get rid of it is to remove the aftermarket intake.

How long have you been running with the mods and the cai before the code came on?
Ive had my injen on for over a year with the stage 2 and never had the code come up.
You can make sure that you have all the updates to the stage 2 flash ,there was a tsb on the p0171 and a reflash that was for it I think.
Someone might be able tp verify that for me.

Read the sticky at the top of the section.
