S/C boost bypass actuator question

Quick question: When the car is idling, should the rod sticking out of the actuator be able to be pushed into the actuator itself, or should it be able to extend outwards from the actuator?

I think this thing is stuck closed but I can't tell what way it normally would operate. If I push the rod into the actuator, is that closing or opening the butterfly valve? Right now on my car, that 'rod' is fully extended, and only travels inwards towards the actuator with the car at idle.

Any halp would be appreciated. Thanks.

I don't know if that's the same setup as our cars, but if the rod is all the way out then the valve should be closed. IIRC, when these cars are at idle and low loads, that valve should be open and then close when the motor commands higher boost levels.

I think I just figured out where my mysterious air leak/hissing noise has been coming from for the past 2 years. Not sure why it would just randomly work the wrong way, though.

So according to this:

Mine is most definitely jammed in the closed position if it is fully extended at idle.

Can anyone on here confirm this?

Can somebody go out to their car, start it, and tell me the position of that actuator rod?

Can you pull it out any further, or only push it in? Or vice versa?

Please and thanks.

While at idle the rod is outward away from the bypass valve if u rev it it move inward toward it... so no at idle it doesn't pull out more... only in. They also squeek alot
