Service Engine Light and Reduced Engine Power

While I was driving to my girlfriend's house yesterday, my service engine light came on, traction control light came on, and "Reduced Engine Power" was displayed on the DIC. Car would not go over 40mph, so I pulled over on the side of the road. I turned it off, waited about 20 seconds. Those same lights were still on.

So I shut it off, this time I waited about 3 minutes before turning it back on. This time, the traction control light and "reduced engine power" were off. I decided to drive up to the McDonald's up the street since the speed limit was 50 mph right there and didn't want to get hit.

When I got to McDonald's I checked the oil. It was "low"(first tick mark), but I'm fairly sure that wasn't the problem because that's never caused the car to do this before. I did go ahead and add 3/4 quart of 5W30 anyway. Started it up, service engine light was still on. Well I decided to drive to my girlfriend's. When I got there, I disconnected the battery, hooked it back up and the service engine light was off.

So now I need to figure out what the problem is. The car has went through oil since I bought it(4 years ago), so I'm fairly sure that wasn't the cause, although I could be wrong.

Also, something else that has been happening, which I'm not sure relates to the problem I'm having now, is that after driving the car for a while, and then shifting it into park, I hear a beeping sound come from somewhere. This only happens sometimes though. So I don't know if some wires got chewed up somewhere or a sensor is going bad or what.

Please help me guys. I thank you so much.

you need to get the codes read, a CEL is hard to help with when we don't know the code. My guess off hand is the Throttle positioning sensor.

Thanks for responding. Will I be able to get the code since I disconnected the battery?

eh idk, sometimes you can, but typically it will clear it. You may have to wait for it to throw the code again

You're going to have to set the code again before you can read it at Autozone or another parts store.

The same **** legit just happened to me also. My buddy who works for Chevy scanned it for me. He said its the throttle body position sensor. Hopefully this fixes the problem.
