my shift knob clicks up and down now, it feels like its going to fall off, what gives?!

 

Under the cap the Bolt might be Loose!

Or it may not have a screw under the shift pattern at all - like my 05.
Press on crap - they will glue on if you take it in.

It is a press on knob. you want to fix?

keep pulling up on the knob. Trust me it is not a bolt on. the put it back on is a very slight position change. press on and hit it down with your hand. it wont move after that. I am getting a new know under warranty because the shift pattern plate broke out of the knob. it is held in place by three little plastic clips.

yeah good luck with gettn a new one....my dealership tried to get me a new knob and could not get it, saying the only way to get it is to get the entire shifter. my shift pattern broke off about 3 months ago, and knob became loose. we glued the patttern back on, but the knob was still loose. well, last night, i went to down shift from 3rd to 2nd, and the whole damn knob came off in my hand! had the spring for the reverse come flying out at me, not really happy about the whole deal. went to the dealer today and he said again, the other SS/SC thats in my town had the same issue, and they can not get in just the knob, but rather the entire shifter, and he recommended an aftermarket shifter, like the b&m or other. but just chalk up another common problem with the 05 SS/SC.

 

Im having the same problem with my car now.. I was driving the other night and my shift knob just popped off and it was dark and I was driving so I pushed it back on and now its at and crooked and stuck on.. and the shift boot has also been popping out of place constintley.. on top of that my unlock buttons dont work anymore... Im gunan have to make an appointment soon to get all these problems fixed

 

yea my shifter was clickign...well i shifted one day and the whole thing came off into my hand,i was like ummmm ,so i stuck it back on, ther is nothing holding it on, if the car interior is really hot i can just yank it off like its nothing, god damn gm lol, time to get it fixed lol

 

It's a defective part, why the F@#* won't the dealership replace what ever needs replacing to make the car right? He shouldn't have suggested anything, he should have asked you when it would be convenient to drop your car off to have the assembly replaced. Dealerships **** me off, where's our resident GM tech when you need him?
