shut off problem
shut off problem
almost everytime i got to get outta the car i try to take the key out and it wont turn off all the way and the key wont come out i have to re try it 10 times any ideas???
Mine's doing the same thing now... and its usually when I need to get out bc Im running behind (i.e. late for work) and I NEED to get the key out. Hell, It is at the point now where when I stop at a gas station to get something to drink and I can't get the key out I just leave it... I dont like that. Gonna call and get an appointment at the dealer and see what they can do about it....
Are these manuals or automatics? If they're automatics, it's probably some problem with the shifter not registering that it's in P. If the car thinks the shifter is in any gear other than P or N it will not allow you to remove the key...
If they're manuals....I have no clue unless the wheel's cut all the way to one side or the other. That's the only time I've had problems with mine.

Mine is an auto... I just spoke to the dealer, and they told me that if, when turning the key off, there is even the slightest bit of outward pressure that the ignition will lock up. They said to try pushing in slightly when it does it and it should let you turn it all the way off and release the key.
they said this was a very common issue with not only the cobalt, but also on the Malibu and Impala.
Ya know, the easiest way to solve this would be to install a keyless ignition like in the Vette

So, they don't have any kind of official fix at the dealership for this? It's really annoying.
Have you seen if the problem is fron the steering wheel locking mechinism? Try to turn your steering wheel back and forth while pulling out your key. If that don't work go to the dealership.
