So I was out changing the oil in my mom's 2.2 Vue and when I took the oil cap off to add more oil there was some yellow sludge on it and on that little bar that is just inside the fill hole on the engine. Can anyone give some ideas on the cause of this? The oil did not look to have any sludge in it when I drained it.

 

I would not worry about it unless it has coolant in the oil when you drained it or it's usein coolant

 

Her car has been eating a lot of coolant for a long time, never saw anything in the oil before and two different dealerships (ones I trust) hever could find the leek. Think the head gasket is blown?

 

If it's been eating coolant, and you get that sludge, I'd say it's blown.

That is what I thought, just looked at my book at it looks like a **** load of work and time to replace the gasket. Thanks.
