Someone “steer” me in the right direction!

I just picked up a running and driving 06 SS for $725. Insane deal considering it still runs and drives. It has 159,000 on the odo.

The main problem with the car is the steering wheel. The previous owner was playing with a loaded pistol in the driver seat and shot a hole straight through the airbag! Wow!

for some reason now, the hazards come on randomly when you get in the car, haven’t had it happen when driving. The airbag is now exposed and the wheel has a chunk blown out of it..

im trying to find a replacement steering setup from another cobalt. I can’t seem to find a SS near me for parts.

would a base model cobalt steering wheel from the same year interchange? I need the airbag/ wheel, everything it attaches to and the turn signal lever.

here are some pics of the damage/ the car! I’m trying to keep cost as low as possible so getting them from a junkyard is my best bet.

You can get a C6 Corvette steering wheel as an exact replacement.

I’d guess the shot damaged the clock spring maybe as well.

Yes, a base model steering wheel will work. You can even go up to the better shaped 07+ wheel. All the connections are the same, the only two buttons that won't work are the info and back button, you'll still use the ones on your dash. Look for a Pontiac G5, they have the nicer leather wheels in them usually and those are identical as well.

lucky me the bullet didn’t penetrate through the rear of the airbag! Pulled it today and everything is intact. Found a replacement for $40 used!!
