SS/SC's oil change?

Just got my SS'SC's oil changed at the Chevy garage...was the most expensive oil change I ever paid for...since GM recommends Mobile fully synthetic the price is much higher than regular oil...my question is...do I still need a change every 3,000 miles or could I go 5,000...the garage put a sticker in the corner of the windshield saying 3,000 miles till the next one...but with full synthetic oil there should be no need to change it that often...unless they're going by routine maintenence for warranty to be in affect should there be a problem down the road.

with Mobil 1 and normal driving conditions you could go 7000. I would say every 5 just to play it safe. Hell do what I did go pay $90 for a case of Mobil 1 Extended performance. Then only change your oil every 12000 miles. Works awesome. Doing your own oil change > $70 oil change each time.

Yeah, man, do it yourself. That is one of the best ways to save a little bit, especially if you use synthetic.

I'm on pace to get over 10k miles out of my oil, and that's driving in dusty, hot AZ. I check it twice a month, and after 4k it's still clean. As far as breaking down, many tests have shown it will last well beyond 15k miles before losing its ability to lubricate.

The dealer gave me free oil changes for 3 years or 36 thousand miles. But change it at 5000.

but if u change it yourself does that do anything to your warrenty...If u had a problem Gm could say u didnt keep up with regular scheduled maintenence through your dealership u bought the car from.

Save your receipts and mark your log at the back of your owner's manual and you'll be fine.

I have never had a problem with a dealership saying I didn't take care of the car and I have changed the oil myself on every car I have ever had.

And there is no reason NOT to change the oil yourself, the cobalt is way to easy to change to take it in and get raped by some dude that makes $8 an hour to do 15 minutes worth of work.

I use the Mobil 1 and the safe mileage (according to indepent studies) is to change the oil is about 5000 - 7000 and about 10,000 - 12,000 with extended performance. I would recommend changing the filter every 2500 - 3000 miles. The oil may last for 5000 or more miles, but the filters are only designed to hold so much before they stop working efficiently. And again, this is easy since the filter is in a very easy place it only takes like 5 minutes tops to swap the filter out.

My dealer offered three things that made me buy there instead of anywhere else.

1. Free Oil Changes For Life (as long as I own the car)
2. Free State Inspections For Life (same)
3. Engine Guaranteed for life (obvious exceptions apply)
