steering getting stuck
steering getting stuck
Hey guys, lately I've noticed that if i try to turn my wheel while my car is stationary it is very tough to do and feels stuck. This is especially annoying during 3 point turns. What could this be, the steering seems normal while driving its just when I'm still it is very tough to turn the wheel. Thanks guys.
I had two power steering problems two different cars same day, maybe due to cold weather,I don't know.i still have oil stains all over driveway from the two cars.
One was a steering hoes, other was rack
There's no fluid in the rack. The assist motor is all electric, looks like a starter motor attached under the steering wheel inside the car. From your description it's failed. I'd get a quote on replacing it.
hmmm... i had something with the power steering replaced under recall a few years ago i wonder if that is the part that has failed. Is there a way to diagnose if its definetly the assist motor that has failed before buying a new one and replacing it? Are these expensive?
i havent noticed any leaks although im not sure where i would look to see if that is the problem. I havent noticed any stains underneath my car but i cant say that it isnt leaking for sure.

i didn't mention before, but i have no lights on on my dash indicating any problems with the power steering...would i have a CEL or a light on the dash if my motor has failed??.....also could it possibly be a blown fuse?
During the recall they replaced the assist motor because it would act up.
You may or may not get a power steering error code, depending on the exact failure. There is a big fuse, 60 amp I believe for the EPS system motor. Check that.
There won't be any fluid leaks because there is no power steering fluid. The assist motor is inside the car anyway, under the steering wheel over the pedals.
