So last week my girlfriend got a new passat for a rent a car while her car was being serviced. When i drove the car, the steering wheel felt so smooth and effortless and the steering was very tight and responsive compared to mine, so i started thinking and wondering if maybe something is wrong with my steering, it definitely takes alot more effort to turn my wheel, and the steering is not as tight/responsive....do you think that this is just normal for our cars compared to others or should my steering be better, thanks guys

 

The Passat steering rack is a hydraulic unit, yours is an electronic motor. IMHO the electronic motor in our cars is programmed to have a "sporty" feel, which is accomplished by not assisting as much as a big soft cushy Passat.

 

Okay thanks for clearing that up for me, I was just wondering bc i couldnt remember if it felt better when the car was brand new compared to now
