Stereo is possessed

I went to the movies last night and when I got out and started my car the radio was completely f@#$%!. I have to listen to the same cd over and over at the same volume. When you try to eject the cd or push any other button for that matter it just shows the time left on whatever track is playing on the cd. Every now and then you can adjust the volume with the steering wheel controls. And it beeps all the frikkin time. Anyone else had anything like this happen?

Time to have it sent out for repair. Either that or GM can order you a radio and let you retain your malfunctioning stock one.

There is a revised software for the Cobalt base CD radios w/o MP3 (RPO U1C)
Have your dealer look up TSB #05-08-44-010B
The revision is designed to rectify the following, possibly intermittent, issues:

• Inoperative or "dead" CD mechanism
• CD loads but won't play
• CD spins but no audio is heard
• Radio clock displays 12:00 while CD plays
• Radio VF display does not dim when the vehicle dimmer control is decremented
• Radio VF display momentarily flickers
• Radio VF becomes inoperative
• Radio displays ERR
• Radio displays LOC, disabling the radio

You can also try resetting the radio as follows:
1.Turn the IGN OFF.
2.Remove the right side lower console trim panel.
3.Remove the 10 amp Radio fuse from the IBCM (aka fuse-block)for 30 seconds.
4.Reinstall the fuse and turn the IGN ON.
*You may have to reset your radio presets after performing this procedure

My Radio is acting weird too.... It will pop up with an error, on a CD i have been listening too for weeks, and when I try to eject the CD it says, "NONE"! I have to take the car in to get a new catalytic Converter put on anyway, I will let them check the radio to while it's there!

I got a base cobalt coupe and I have the same problem, to get my radio to work I have to turn my car off, open the driver's door and close it, and start my car back up again. It is not a consistant thing with my car but I plan on taking it to the dealer to get it replaced.

I also have a base coupe with the baseline stereo...It appears to be a pattern! Keep us posted when you take it in. 90-percent of the time, it works fine, but it pops up out of the blue every now and then for me with the "None" message. How about you guys?

I once had it happen when I was listening to a CD, pressed the eject button, got the "None" message and then it wouldn't work until I shut off the car.

I've posted a couple times about this exact problem. I too have a base (pursuit) with the base cd player. I'm taking it in for the second time tomorrow and hopefully they will replace it with the mid level one. I heard that is the way to fix the problem.

I just had it replaced and then two days later with a brand new deck (same base cd player) it happened again!

I'm hoping i'll get the mid level one to at least have the multi line display and auto eq settings. I hate how the base stereo only has one line of output ... it's so basic.

I'll post again if I get the newer model deck or still another crappy base one.

I had a similar problem with my base model radio just three weeks after getting my car. The dealer gave me the next radio up for free because the base models were on back order haven't had any issues with it.
