Stock Air Filter Replacement

I have searched for this info but no luck. I need to change out my wifes air filter on her 06 SS/SC. It appears to sit in the fender well. Any quick tips or tricks on accessing it?
Thanks!

Guessing no owners manual?

Pop off 3 snaps (kinda c shaped, hinged at lower end), top with the flex hose comes off, panel type filter inside. At least thats how the 2.4's are, can't see the 2.0 being a lot different....other than being on the other side of the car

Super charged cobalt requires you to access the filter through the fender liner.
You should be able to do it with the wheel on but might be easier if you have it off.

On the driver side the front portion of the fender liner can be unscrewed and pulled down to give you access to the air filter.
Its pretty straight forward from there but if you dont have enough room remove the wheel and fender liner and you then will have lots of space.

I just did this job today (clean out filter) and for the 2.0 S/C I would definitely take the wheel off. Next remove the 6 or 8 small bolts from the fender lining and bottom of front bumper and there you go. much easier access!

not even close

Best bet is follow the instructions the other guy posted, and take off the wheel. It's a bitch with the wheel on.

Damn, that seems to be a wee bit convoluted for an air filter. Guess the blower takes up way more room than I thought!

Crap, got it wrong twice this month and it's only half over

I can actually do i quite easy with the wheel on now , just pull the inner fender down and yank the filter out .

If you need to just clean the maf or have a CAI...pull the headlight out and it's easy to get to. I've gotten a cai filter out threw there.

The manual does not give instruction for the changing of the filter. Thanks to all for the info. I will take care of it this weekend.

Could not agree more. It is very easy to change the filter with the wheel on. Thanks to everyone for the tips!

and located inside the fender

and being housed in an airbox

and being a cylinder type that requires airbox removal and disassembly to access
