stuck it in but it didnt turn

Got off work at 11pm last night and stopped at my sisters business because she was still there. I went to leave 30min later but I couldnt get the key to turn in the ignition. Ended up calling Chevy to get a tow but they had to bring it to my house because the dealer was closed. To make it worse both of my windows were down and I couldnt get them up but at least I didnt go racing tonight or I would have been stuck even further from home. I ended up getting home at 2am after waiting for the tow truck for 1 hr and 45mins and woke up at 8am. So now it is sitting in the street in front of my house waiting for the tow truck to come and bring it to Kelly Chevrolet to be fixed. Probably needs the ignition in the column replaced.

update: I was at work till 11pm. Tow truck driver called when he got to my house and asked what was wrong. I told him and he said that he just started the car. I just told him to put it in my driveway since the dealer would just say that they couldnt duplicate the problem. Yes I did try to turn the steering wheel. I didnt want to wait 2 hrs until 1:30am for a towtruck so I made sure that I tried everything and my sister tried it to. yes I tied the second set of keys when it was towed home and turned the keys around.

Yeah It Sounds Like A Failure In The Ignition Lock Cylinder Most Likely.

Did you try to turn the wheel to either side? somtimes if you bump it you have to turn it back a little to get the key to turn over.

guess it is kinda of late now since you already towed it but it sounds like you just locked the steering wheel. You must have knocked it or pulled on it when getting out of the car. Locking the steering wheel is a safety measure and you cant put the key back into the ignition without moving the wheel.

well...most cars have that feature. If it does not apply to cobalts then nevermind

That sucks. Hopefully its something easy and you wont have to be without your car for long.

BTW, I see you have an aftermarket sunroof?

Did you have a solid roof prior to that and have the sun roof installed? Or did you just replace the factory one?

yea, to me it sond like you just locked your steering wheel. I did it yesterday going into work. All you have to do is move the steering wheel back and forth and then fire it up.

It had a solid roof prior to the install and looks perfect.

theres a tsb for that problem. if i recall correctly it should apply to your car. the issue is the tumblers inside the ignition cylinder. the bulletin says to disassemble the lock cylinder and remove all the tumblers with the #5(i think its 5) on them. take it to the dealer, im sure they know all about this problem. there was like a 2 week period when we had at least one a day come in for that problem. the autos also have a few problems with the shifter assembly, but that obviously doesnt apply to your ss/sc
