Stupid GM Policies
Stupid GM Policies
so i've been having an oil leak around my timing chain tensioner for a while now and just took it to the dealership this week because i found out the car is still under the power train warranty. Monday it goes in and they replace the tensioner and valve cover gasket and give it back. Next day its leaking worse than before so back it went today. They called and said they found something wrong with the head but instead of just replacing the head they said they are going to fix it with epoxy. They said that is the gm policy. Anyone else think that its an awful idea to repair such a vital engine part with glue?
Can I follow up with your dealership for you? Please contact me via pm with your name, VIN, and name of your involved dealership.

Ya I wouldn't let just epoxying the head fly. No way would that hold up for the life of the vehicle. Definitely demand a new head before the warranty runs out!
I'm actually happy to see that there is a GM rep on here for the most part. I know for my explorer forum I am on there's a ford rep that helps out a bit

Subed to this thread, my car has oil all over the bottom of the car, has since new. Never a drip on the ground. Finally going to take it in...
Will be fun! They always try to bs me!

Mines had a leak for quite some time too and it was always all over the side of the block with the exhaust mani and also dropped down onto the axle and control arm. Finally found the source to be the timing chain tensioner so I'd check that if I were you. It's directly to the left of exhaust mani when looking from the front of the car and it looks like a big ass bolt head. It also pools up on top of the water pump hump after you shut the car off

I found a hairline crack on my cyclinder head 1 month after I purchased my car back in 07'.... (casting imperfection)
The dealer tried saying they will just repair the crack. I told them absolutely not, I want the head replaced.... Sure enough (w/o much fighting) they replaced the head after I showed them how the oil seeped out of the crack.
Fight it man.... Get it fixed right!

Ohh there's definitely no way I'm gonna settle for a patch job. I'll see what the GM service rep that posted in this thread comes up with and go from there. If I have to fight with the dealer about it I will
So I just got a pm back from Sarah the gm rep. Long story short she said when she spoke to the dealership that the tech noticed some performance modifications that could interfere with the warranty. My mods are in my sig and i know there is no way that anything of them could've possibly put a crack in the head
They have to be able to prove beyond doubt that a modification you did caused the issue. If they cant, and from looking at your mods they cant, then its actually illegal for them to not fix the problem. Just swapping a header isn't enough to crack a head so they cant technically void the warranty on that part. Now if you jave exhaust problems they can but not with the head or block unless you mdified them internally.
Yeah I think congress actually passed a law about this sorta thing. I'm gonna try to talk to someone from GM before it goes in Tuesday because IMO it's almost pointless to take it in for their stupid repair when I'd rather them swap it out completely
Even if your mods cause a problem. I know with K&N They will pay for your car to get fixed, if their mod causes a problem. Almost had to have them do that to mine, since my K&N was rubbing on my brake lines, but I managed to catch it in time. They gave me a full refund for my K&N after I sent the pictures of where it was rubbing on the brake lines and the PCM.
The mods on my car are only made to "free" up more power. All they do is improve the flow of air into and out of the engine. If anything they put less strain on the engine and should help prolong its life. There's absolutely no way that simple bolt ons put a crack in the head
