good ole vasoline works well on rubber seals. It even helps older seals "puff" back up to their original size.

For what its worth the sunroof has been my only source of problems thusfar.
It started with the motor failing, my stealership replaced the "whole assembly".
But, they did not put the int. trim back in correctly and after a few weeks I noticed a rattling.
It sounded like a loose piece of metal bouncing around if I had the sunroof open (tilted up) not fully open. Also I heard it if I slammed the door or shut the sunshade quickly
Turns out it was a "bad" assembly something about rivets etc according to them.
Now, the dealership calls me today and says it will be a few days and the will be overnighting the part today. This makes 3 or 4 times the headliner has been down
Just a little fed up as this is my 5th or 6th visit for the sunroof and it still isn't done!!
Oh yeah FWIW I just hit 3,000 miles so WTF?!?

They gave me an '04 malibu for a loaner what a piece of $hit .....I miss my SS

For those of you asking about the lube. That's a good question. I'd say any lube that says it can be used on rubber should be fine.

Personally, I used the Meguiars NXT Tech Protect I had laying around that said it could be used on rubber. My sunroof is quiet as can be right now.

mine is finally fixed, the sunroof was a huge problem with my car, what a headache. I had an 05 malibu for my rental and I started to like it. It was an automatic but it had touch shift on the shifter and a button to turn off the traction control, everything my cobalt needs. Me and malibu had lots of fun last week. I miss her

Well, I went to pick up my car last night.....
The sunroof works, but the shade still makes noise and the passenger side of the sunroof makes a clicking/crunching noise when closing
On top of that they caused a few more problems.

1st- the headliner is wrecked just above the weatherstripping on the pass. door (i can put my finger in the gap and feel the inside of the roof metal) (1-2"gap!!!)

2nd- the trim on the back pillar and the middle pillar with the seatbelt is not clipped in or correctly seated (2nd time for this incl. 2 visits to hear "we ordered the wrong part")

3rd- the sunshade had several grease fingerprints on it and one on the headliner as well

At this point after 2 complete sunroof assemblies after the original and 6-7 trips to the dealer I'm fed up
and if one more tech tries to say "thats normal"to the issue I will have to start shouting.
Already told the service manager if he can produce even ONE car that does it on his lot I will accept that statement.....so far no reply of "here this other car does it" whatsoever

I did make a call to GM and will be hearing from them next Fri. about what they will do next
I will give the dealership another chance to make it right before I post names and warnings not to go there

I really like the CS/SS but I dont really have much faith in this particular car that I have
hopefully I can get a replacement.

Starting a new thread on all of my issues and my dealings with GM ....stay posted

welcome to my world, after they replaced my sunroof they gave me the car back in horrible condition. I couldnt even believe the would give it back to me with fingerprints all over the headliner and it wasnt tucked right next to the passanger b pillar. It killed me, I hate my car. After I finally thought everything was good I went to open my sunroof today and the switch caved in... wtf.. I thought that problem was fixed months ago... Back to the dealership.

I'm taking my car in friday for the sunroof rattle. I only have 700 miles on the car so far and its rattling like crazy. The service tech I talked too said its most likely the cable loose or something of the sort cuasing the sunroof slack.
