Question Supercharger oil

Is there a normal service interval for the supercharger's oil life?

That I know of, you shouldn't touch it because it is said to last 100k miles.

bunch of threads on this.

gm does not recommend any scheduled changes for the m62 on the cobalt. to paraphrase the dealer service manual - the supercharger is sealed for life, and does not require fluid changes.

now, if you read the threads on here, you have guys changing it ever oil change, every 3 oil changes, every 30k, every 50k, every 100k, etc, and swearing by it. to confuse the issue even more, we have conflicting info from eaton about the capacity of the sc and arguments over how much you should really put it.

i'm at 106k miles now. i was going to change it, but the oil that came out of mine looked no different from the new stuff. so i decided it was ok.

you dont have to change it, i have changed mine however that is because i changed the SC coupler. if your not going to break into the gear housing then dont worry about changing it.

Thanks folks. I am only at 35,000 miles now. Sounds like it is one of those "if it isn't broke don't fix it" deals. Here is another question for everyone out there. Iridium or Platnum plugs. I am running Iridium NGK'S one step colder. Who's got what?

Wow, guess I better check mine. Sounds to me that they did not really have a handle on it from the factory. I would prefer there be some sort of maint. schedule. That things is spinning pretty fast if it should starve just alittle, could get ugly!!

No that is not true at all. the gear housing has no connection what so ever to the engine oil. it has its own seperate oil.

how did boosted change your oil jakeyzf250, cause the only real way to know exactly how much oil you had left is to actually crack open the gear housing. when i changed my coupler i firts used a syringe and plastic hose and i thought i had it all until i opened it, then alot more still came out.

Boosted changed it when he replaced my coupler, so it was opened up. It wasn't bone dry but it didnt have nearly the ammount it should have. But if I were to ask GM about it they would probably tell me it''s becuse my windows are tinted and due to global warming.

Just checking, there are alot of people on here that will use a syringe and only get 3oz out and start freaking cause they think the SC oil is low. how many miles did his car have, cause i just changed my coupler at 42,000 and i still had close to 6oz(it was just filthy)? another thing some people have to check when they get the car is the seal on the gear housing. When i opened mine, i noticed GM did a shitty job with the gasket sealant. My friend warned me of this cause his SC went almost dry by 20,000 miles cause his seal was bad.

I agree, like i said i wasnt low, it was just dirty as ****. Personally to the OP if your are very picky on your maintenance then change it every 45,000( or when i looks nasty).

Turbos are usually oiled by the engines oil system. I am very picky about my maint. this things gotta run or I get pissed!! I will be checking on mine all the time since it sounds like everyone has had a different expirience. Whatch ur engine oil, the European Blend Mobil One 0w30 is the best out there now. My friend checks on the blends and ratings of oils since he is a service manager. They put that blend in Vipers and most everything else. It is better than anything out there next to Amsoil.
