I have had the same problem twice in the last couple months! This last time the dealership repaired it they said they put in a stronger linkage shifter shear pin and replaced some other plastic parts. I am not sure why this keeps happening, but I am hoping with the "stronger" pin it doesn't break again. If anybody knows why it is happening or if this is a problem with the Cobalts let me know

I don't know anything about the roll pins, but I know it's usually the problem when cobalts lose all their gears. But if the roll pin came out would he lose individual gears first?? Or would they all go at once.

And if it is a roll pin I believe there is a how to on here about it.. unless your still under warranty. Then let them worry about it.

well it turns out it was the roll pin... gm completely warrantied it.. Now they never bled my clutch line.. because they didnt know it was the roll pin at first and completely pulled the tranny out... I bled the clutch the today and it went right back to having more air in it.. so back to the dealer it goes.. i figure they either didnt tighten the lines down good or the cracked the hydraulic line..

for some reason bleeding our clutches is retarded difficult!!! It never seems to be just right.... but then after you drive it for a couple days it feels perfect again. It made me so angry.. i thought all my hydraulics were going =( I guess you gotta let it work itself out (after its bled properly) even though there is no air in it.

yea they pulled my tranny. i guess they didnt tighten the mount bolts on the trans enough. the bottom one completely fell out and put stress on the upper part of the mount causing it to crack... damn ****'s!!! still hasnt been fixed.
