Unhappy Transmission Oil Level check

Hello there,

I had a problem with my car a month ago, and it was spilling transmission oil so I had to put another quarter of oil in there, but I wasn't sure how much oil it spilled.

I noticed that there is no way of checking the level, but maybe you can tell me how to check if the level is ok. What can happen if I put more oil than the max level? I know that the change of gears will be slower if it was less oil, but what will happen if it has more than normal.

One more thing, I know how to drain the oil, but my other questions is. Can I drain the oil just thru the drain screw without preheating my car or I need to preheat my car first?

Also on the top of the transmission there is the cap to fill the transmission oil, if the oil is fill, do I need to feel and touch the oil with my finger through the whole?

I will really appreciate if you can help me with this.

Ruben

Whats the year/model? On my 05 2.2 there is a bolt on the side of the tranny you take off. If its dribbles out, your good. if it shoots out wait until the dribble, then screw it back in. IF no dribble, add some until dribble. Why was it leaking in the first place?

My car has the 2.4 engine. I don't see the bolt to take out from the side. And I dont really know how to know if its full.

Is it full if I can touch the oil with my finger thru the filling whole or what?

Ruben

I have a quick question. Do I need to preheat the car to drain the transmission oil, or not?

Ruben
