Trying to Diagnose Engine Noise - Conflicting opinions
Trying to Diagnose Engine Noise - Conflicting opinions
I've got an 06 Pontiac Pursuit I've been working on. Bought it in non-running condition, guy said that the head gasket blew (doubt that now!) then he got it towed home but the tow truck busted the oil pan. Anyways I got a new pan installed, put in some new oil & filter. I did notice some tiny metal pieces in the old oil filter. Started it up. Engine ran rough for a bit, then smoothed out really nice and sounded completely normal. Then it started to sound like this:
Some members of EDT thought it might be the oil pump, so I took off the engine front cover. I did notice that lots of oil poured out of the RH (smaller) port to the oil pump (at least compared to the last 2.2 cover I took off). Anyways here is a picture of the oil pump...looks more or less ok to me, don't really know what to look for!
Someone else thinks it could be a spun rod bearing.
Any advice would be appreciated.

with a lift you can do anything but removing it and putting it on an engine stand is ideal. rebuilding isn't easy and knowledge is going to have a big part in rebuilding and knowing what caused the failure as to just fixing what is broken.
