Valvoline

I had to go to a valvoline quick stop place because the mileage on the oil was getting ridiculous and the dealer closes at 4:30. And if you are wondering, I like changing my own oil BUT I am literally not allowed to under this lame lifetime warranty that came with my car. So anyway valvoline had a bunch of 16 yr old girls working there. So immediately I was thinking this was a mistake. They changed the oil nice and fast then went to close the hood. Some genious left a tool under the hood and the girl tried to slam it closed THREE times before realizing there was something stopping it from latching. Soooo my hood on the driver side was jacked up about 2" higher than the fender. Point and case, avoid these crappy quick lube style places. If you want a mechanic to work on your car go to the dealer! They did agree to fix it which they did a decent job. Turns out one of the mounts moved and the shock was jacked up out of shape. Its not perfect but they did a good job so I let it slide rather than making a scene. So thats my story. I wish I didnt have this gay warranty so I could just change my own friggin oil. MORONS! Argghhh

Yeah... that is why I do most of the work myself... crappy little places like that never do things right..
I would have made them fix anything and everything that was damaged though..scene or no scene.. either that or someone would have carried a ass whooping..

Local dealers in my area offer lifetime powertrain warranty on GM so long as you keep records of all maintenance. EVERYTHING must be done on time by a dealer or ASE mechanic or it voids the warranty. I dont expect to need to use it. I dont beat on my cars like joe ricer so I should be fine.

To clarify, they did fix it. Its hard to tell anything is out of place unless you really really look for it. The pass side headlight is really close to the hood now, that's all. It might be off 1mm. It was probably that crooked from the factory. I didnt think it would look good with me beating on a 16 yr old girl so I just left satisfied knowing she was caught on tape doing it.

you just voided your warranty then. no one at Valvoline is ASE certified. I work at a pennzoil. by the way, if you do go to a oil change place, don't go to Valvoline, we see all kinds of crap from there, just to day a car came in with a Valvoline oil filter half screwed on, although i would always do it myself.

I work at a Valvoline. All the places in this area are run by a bunch of dudes who are legitimately into cars and know what we're doing, and they make sure of this in the interview process. You probably went to a franchise (no way to figure which is which without asking, unfortunately), but please don't hold their ineptitude against us all. We know what were doing. I promise. Oh, and Pennzoil sucks.

even if he did. you can go over your oil change limit for a short while (usually no more than 500 miles) with no repurcussions.

its not like you drive 5001 miles on your oil change and something will go boom.

unless of course Chevy wants to be a **** about that warranty **** and say you went a few miles over and voided your warranty.

I gEt my oil changed at valvoline and I've never had a problem. In fact, I had the opposite happen. I got my oil changed at a local deLership and they didn't use mobil 1 claiming they use regular oil unless you ask for synthetic.. My dad and I were furious considering this happened at a chevy dealer and it shows mobil one right on top of the oil cap. I guess there are geniuses everywhere.

I can see somewhat what there saying, cause there are alot of people that refuse to put synthetic in their brand new turbo audi's, but they should at least ask you!

I've changed my own oil since the car was new (bought with 9 original miles) and I have always done the oil myself.

You're not kidding. We get calls from people with new Volvos and Saabs (which clearly state in the owner's manual that a full synthetic is required) all the time bitching about how we're a bunch of ********* because we screwed up and their car is short two quarts of oil. We ask what kind of oil they used...conventional. And yet they refuse to believe there's any difference and we are the sole reason why their cars are fucked up.

God I hate people.

The person who changed my oil was an ASE mechanic, I asked specifically before they did it. The manager did the oil change...or at least the paperwork says he did it.

To clear this up, I HAD TO CHANGE THE OIL IMMEDIATELY. My warranty has a mileage clause and I drive 55 miles to work each way, so 110 miles every day. I would have gone past their limits in the warranty agreement so I had no choice. I can only make it to a dealer on Saturdays, which happened to be 4 days away. I'm pretty sure going 440 miles over the limit would be a red flag and void it.

Looking back with hindsight, could you have taken it in last Saturday? How particular is this warranty on change intervals?

I'd be interested to see if this warranty allows oil changes at home. Save the receipts for oil and filters of course. Since it doesn't sound like an actual GM warranty (GM doesn't offer lifetime powertrain warranties), how much did it cost? Don't say it was free; they've probably buried the cost somewhere else. And is the company that issued the warranty going to be in business ten or 15 years from now? How long is "lifetime"?

I really, really don't like aftermarket warranties. They are sort of like insurance policies; you could probably take the cost of the warranty, invest it and use it to pay for any problems after the factory warranty runs out and still come out ahead, and best of all if you sell the car early you get all your money back.

Whoa guys, you are reading WAY too much into this. First off, the warrant was 100% FREE. Didn't add one cent onto the bill. This dealer is huge in my area owning 5+ car lots. They have been doing the free lifetime warranty for several years now. They only give the warranty out because they expect you to take it to their dealerships for service, but I don't. And they know its very tough to abide by all the service and maintenance so they just expect you to void your warranty. I have read the service contract and talked to them about it. If you go over on mileage they will screw you out of your warranty. I will never be able to sell this vehicle and get money back because 1) had negative equity buying it, and 2) I put 22k miles a year on my cars. This thread was not about warranties so much as the bad service report. I was doing what had to be done, it's not my fault they botched it.

Those same lifetime warranties probably are void anyways when you try to use it due to some fine print that requires a microscope to read.

They always have a loophole to get out of them. The local Toyota dealer that offers the same type of warranty is known for not honoring those warranties anyways because you didn't use x brand of turn signal bulbs or something stupid like that.

That being said... do you really plan on keeping the vehicle for longer than 5 years/100K miles anyways?
